At today's price, the dividend yield has risen to 6.74% (based on 58 sen)

....next year with no more cukai makmur, if can get 60 sen, then the yield will be 6.97....ASB also cannot give this high :)

@stkoay: You are absolutely right. I would say that if there is no market shocks or negative news, its price will gradually heading north soon. This happened each time after the ex price date.

At RM8.60 a share, Maybank is trading close to its early 2020 levels. Investors who had bought Maybank then and remain invested until today had already received dividends totaling 149sen a share. Those who continued to buy as it dipped towards RM7 during the final quarter of 2020 would have made more.

Those who have bought prior to 10th April 2020, till today, they have received 149 sen plus 28 sen coming in next month....so, total dividend since then is 177 sen :)

Maybank oh maybank drop more... Fed will announce rate hike this week, let's touch RM8 1st

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2022-09-19 22:01 | Report Abuse

I thought higher interest rates should benefit banks. It should touch RM9 instead.

Buy with a TP of RM10.60 or a PBV of 1.37x derived from a higher applied ROE of 11% (which is below management’s 5-year target of 13-15%.

MAYBANK is our Top Pick for the banking sector for its most favourable risk-to reward with the highest dividend yield in the industry plus solid ROE prospects. MAYBANK hosted a briefing to share its 5-year plan and strategies to achieve planned targets by 2025. Fundamentally, these targets include: (i) sustainable ROEs of 13-15%; (ii) CIR (cost to income ratio) of less than 45%; and (iii) EPS of above 100.0 sen (accounting for future dividend reinvestments). Management also aspires to position the group as a regional ESG leader by driving sustainable financing up to RM50bn in 2025, and to be carbon neutral by 2030.

Why I Invest in The American Stock Market instead of Bursa

Capital appreciation sucks in Malaysia because the KLCI has literally been flat in Malaysia where the S&P 500 has been posting all time highs in the recent months. One way to keep growing is to have innovation and the best place to innovate is either America or China.

With price trading at just 1.2 times book value, 13 times price to earning and a high dividend yield of about 7%.......those who buy will definitely get richer over the long term.....

.....non investor who busy busy trolling....busy busy monitoring the wealth of Tiger investors will definitely get plenty of time to stressed out.....haha...LOL

stkoay

@AqsadMohamah......fundamentally YES.
.....but price in the market is always influence by sentiment....in stock market, short term is a voting machine, long term it will be a weighing machine.

.....if you are a long term player, buy when the stock is reasonably priced regardless of market sentiment....cos nobody can successfully time the market (entry level)

....this strategy is especially true if you are buying a high dividend stock......meaning even market falls, you still get your attractive yield while waiting for market to recover.

Only the initial 0% moratorium hurts banks

Subsequent moratorium worked by restructuring the loan, interest is accrued

Banks don't lose

I'd Avoid Investing in Malaysia (as a Malaysian)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOjBzjBPyMg&t=687s

Owning a strong business and reinvesting the dividends is widely seen as an attractive way of growing your wealth. However, It would not be a surprise to discover that many investors buy it for the sake of just investing, and they would have never explored better alternatives outside of the country.

In contrast to Malaysia's Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) which have returned a measly 40% over the past 30 years, the U.S. S&P 500 Index have returned a whopping 1,000% in the same period, making the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange (KLSE) pale in comparison.

Here are the three main reasons why I would not invest in Malaysia - Underperformance against the S&P 500 Index, lacklustre growth of KLCI stocks, and the constant currency depreciation of the Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) against the United States Dollar (USD).

I Think Wawasan 2020 Failed Terribly. Here’s Why.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB7iau1TdfA

Growing up, we’ve all heard the grandiose phrase “Wawasan 2020”. The image in our head was a futuristic Malaysia with flying cars and highly innovative technologies. But, it’s been 2 years since then, and there aren’t as many flying cars as expected. Well, none at all. So, what happened to “Wawasan 2020”? Was it just a daydream and a powerful political agenda? Or has Malaysia been put up for failure since the start, 30 years ago?

@kyliew, below was what I read somewhere and I now post it verbatim for you to read.
"The American stock market currently appears to be overvalued by 40%. In other words, it would take a 29% drop to bring the market back to its long-run equilibrium level. At the last all-time high, on November 8, 2021, the market was 86.6% overvalued."

No say now it's the time to enter, the worse it's yet to come. Maybe end of 2023 or early 2024 when Fed stop the hiking...only inflation can be reduced to 2% from current 8%++

US quarterly GDP alrdy 2 consecutive negative - Q1 & Q2 2022 (textbook def - recession). After US mid-term election will be far worse...situation will be further negative until year end 2023.

When u see the quarterly GDP turns to positive (just like last time in Q3 2020) in 30 Oct 2020, you can enter buy bit by bit and u are buying at rock bottom range and market is in recovery stage. At least u know the floor is.

Those interested in talking about the US market, better go there, if indeed you are privileged/invited. can't compare the US market with the Malaysian market. Our government said inflation is 3% for 2022, while the US is 8.3%, the UK is 9.9%. Do you really believe Malaysia's statistics?

Can't be just 40% return in 30 years. 400% is more likely.

Fed rate hike: US interest rates hit 14-year high in inflation battle
* By Natalie Sherman
* Business reporter, New York
21 September 2022, 19:01 BST
https://www.bbc.com/news/business-62973376.amp

The US central bank has pushed interest rates to the highest level in almost 15 years as it fights to rein in soaring prices in the world's largest economy.
The Federal Reserve announced it was raising its key rate by another 0.75 percentage points, lifting the target range to 3% to 3.25%.
Borrowing costs are expected to climb more - and remain high, the bank said.
The move comes despite mounting concern that the cost of controlling inflation could be a harsh economic downturn…
