Last year, at early September, I also bought at high 8.91 & 8.93....
....now, after a year, the trade make good profit....
...so, for MBB, anytime is also a good time to add !

Q to buy after ex dividend. It just does not make sense to me to buy now for the dividend then the share price is sdjusyed down as if we use our own money to pay us back.

EPF will be getting about 460m Cash.
ASB will be getting about 1.1b Cash.
....if they do DIY DRP with the CASH dividend then it will be good.

....ASB did some during the previous session....

@linges, yes, if you hold PBB instead of MBB for dividend play...at this time of the year (2 times yearly) you will feel so "sad" for getting so much less....
......some investors say they hold PBB for capital gain...but looking at the price performance, it has under performed so much for the past year compared to MBB.
....even at current price (after dropping so much) it's P/B price to book value is still so high compared to MBB.

The previous ex price was 8.70 on March 13th.
After that the market was hit by the Sillicon Valley Bank news...but the price closed at 8.73 on April 11th......meaning the price made full recovery in one month......with all the bad news and weak sentiment.

Posted by Vinsonlau > 2023-09-12 22:39 | Report Abuse

Is it suggested to purchase at RM9.15 per share now plus earn the dividends and keep it for long term.. or wait till it drop after the ex date and wait for the next dividend? 🤣

maybank is no brainer stock to invest. just buy regularly at a specific amount (e.g RM5,000) on a specific date (e.g every month end) continuously for the next 10 years. then after that can sit tight and retired

@stkoay..yeah true..me also holding PBB for capital gain..but golden era of PBB capital gain seems over..keep for dividend not worth..so exited full position with some capital gain profit plus ciput dividends..

Maybank v UTD Plant.............u r not comparing apple to apple mah!

However the both are the leader of banking n plantations mah!
They are both paying div yield exceeding 6% pa mah!

Thus both are highly investable loh!
Thus depending on your stock profile....if u have too many banking stocks...u can buy into UTD Plant & vice versa loh!

However if u ask me which is better maybank v pbank leh ?

I say Pbank is much safer but maybank give u a bigger div yield loh!

@smartly

rm5,000 * 10 * 12 = rm600,000 principal
…must be a rich fellow if do as you’ve just suggested.

Anyway, why Maybank and not, Tesla (a USA Nasdaq stock) for long term investment ? I’ve been picking up Tesla shares slowly but surely or dollar cost average starting this year and am happy with its stock price progress, so far.

Sold Tesla 100 shares at usd273.40 yesterday and using its sales proceeds to try my luck with MBB 13,000 shares at rm9.12 today. Hope for reasonable or decent ROI knowing that capital appreciation is not MBB forte. I would be pleased with above 6% dividends and 2% to 3% stock price gains annually.

well, Ultimately, whether the growth of Malaysian banks in Indonesia and other regions will outperform Tesla or any other investment is uncertain and can vary based on many factors.

An additional Tesla 110 shares at usd283.40 still in sales queue awaits to be divested for MBB in the next 6 months. I will be checking my post to see if it has aged well or not.

@MOBAjobg
for capital appreciation better stick with tesla. maybank is an old man stock for those looking for price stability and dividend.
those aiming for retirement and earning steady & decent dividend higher than FD, should go for maybank. can sleep soundly.
if u r young can afford to take higher risk on tesla. risk & reward can be very different from maybank.
maybank is for newbies & old man. all the best to you.

Of course, there are more Tesla shares to be sold in the future when its stock price hits or surpasses usd 400, 500-600, 700-800 and 1,000 may take many years to happen.
Yes, I’m optimistic about Tesla stock and I look forward to divest all its sales proceeds into MBB.
Hope my expectations go according to plan.

you hold so many tesla !!! good for you.
you fail to plan is plan to fail. wish your plan come true.
switch all to MBB and can retired early.
1m will get ~RM58k div annually
2m will get ~RM116k div annually
i presume you can afford > 2m in MBB in years to come. can retired by then, no need take high risk anymore

MBB rather than old man stock, i would say for ‘seasoned’ or ‘matured’ investors.

Me too was active warrant/derivatives/day trader, when young and having high adrenaline level..ha ha..

Later, bila adrenaline level drops and higher commitment kicks in..slowly we will increase on medium & low risk portfolio..

Sorry for long potato story 😎

If you have bought into MBB in 2009 at RM 8.50 per share, your investment would have grown to RM 8.7 + RM 7.41 (dividends received) = RM 16.11

Your investment would have grown about 100% over the last 13 years i.e. about CAGR of 7%+,

Based on my charting understanding from “The Technical Analysis Course” 3rd edition book by McGraw Hill’s Meyers, there is an immediate resistance from rm9.15 to rm 9.18 if broken should propel its price to above rm10.
It’s probably or most likely to happen mid next year when the USA Fed could reduce its rates and then, stocks will become attractive again.

From my observation, more and more new investors are getting to know MBB as a long term dividend play.....and with these new investors coming in to "lock" for long term....shares float will get less and less in the future (ie. provided not much DRP in future)....which will be good for share price performance.

@KYLai968

I never knew that there is a stock that can replace BAT former glory years when its price was above rm25 until I take a look see of Utd Plt’s technical analysis price chart that was shared by you.
This stock is going to explode or takeoff in flight during its price discovery stage if can break rm17.
Utd Plt is a no-brainer stock to invest if can get it cheaper than rm16 or even, slightly higher.

MBB is pumping in 3.5b of liquidity to the market.

Previously, even with DRP, EPF & ASB sold before ex date...and sometimes buy back at lower price after ex date, even though they get less DRP by doing so, don't know why they did that, but EPF has been buying before ex lately.
During the previous in March, ASB did some DRP after dividend came in.
