Probably was affected by swiber's announcement of winding-up though the exposure is minimal according to The Star.

in fact, if a company (e.g. swiber) winding-up, why bank has to declare impairment? In fact what is impairment? How bank deals with this situation of winding-up? It is quite ridiculous once winding-up, they no need to pay back rite? The bank is not stupid what...

if company wind up and doesn't have enough assets to pay off it's bank loans, then the bank will need to make an impairment.

thanks for comment. So, the bank could not get back its money borrowed? It seems weird rite if a big bank does not have any way to solve this bad debt?

Its not weird at all, happens all the time. If the company that borrowed money made bad business decisions and lose alot of money, they won't have money to repay their loans. Bank can only seize the assets of the company, but if the value of assets is not enough to cover the loan, then no choice but to write off as bad debt.

Swiber exposure will reduce 5% of FY16 net profit...if assume base share price 8.00, less 5% would be 7.60...

with avg price 8.03...paper loss could go upto 6% :((

Only excellent Q2 report on 25/8 and high divident payout for Sept16..could help Maybank to rebound..
