This news happens in every country
Even CPF is accused of bailing out company
What is the big deal?
The problem is EPF is tired of bailing out this bank now
And people is not happy with anything that they did.

EPF is just using the people's 11-12 percent monthly salary contribution to cover the 6-7 percent annual interest they paying you, if they keep losing money in their stock market ventures. This will end up as 1 titanic ponzi scheme (the biggest in human history). OMG, I cannot imagine how this will unfold, make my head hurts just to think of it.

"Don't worry, Maybank is dropping now because it is being shorted.

There will be short covering soon. Short squeeze will push the price up very fast."

I suppose you taking about the futures market. How to short in KLSE? Tell me how as I want to short too.

There is a long list of companies in KLSE that can be "short", Maybank is one of them.

However, only funds are allowed to short by borrowing scripts. The cost of borrowing scripts can be high; so after shorting, normally soon after there will be short covering.

Thanks. My bearish view is based on EPF recent decision to separate the funds into syariah n conventional. The funds under syariah are not buying any financial sector stocks. Thus, EPF was seen in the 1st half of the year selling Maybank. But I do not know if it has finished paring down its holdings in Maybank.

I have a different view, I don't think the two funds in EPF need to go through the open market to do that; internal transfer will do. More efficient and lower cost.

I believe EPF have holdings of Maybank more than it needed in its finance sector holdings. If it just transferred all Maybank shares into its conventional side, then if may have over-invested in the finance sector. This part of its risk management.

But at the moment, the Syariah fund is still so small to have an impact on the market.

EPF also do trading nowadays; once it starts buying back Maybank it will be followed by short covering

Funds only dare to short when EPF is not buying.

Fr the Feb rally in KLSE till now, most of EPF notice to the exchange is 'disposed' rather than 'acquired'.

All this just because of the separation into two funds?

but can you guys explain why why why EPF always buy high and sell low? the fund is bleeding no end in sight!!!

Posted by shortinvestor77 > 2016-08-31 17:49 | Report Abuse

EPF has professional traders short or long stocks for it. If they short, they have to buy back in 3 days time. Likewise if they long. Epf lends stock for them. They share the profits.

Posted by batistuta87 > 2016-08-31 18:04 | Report Abuse

EPF rubbish. Buy high, sell low.

For shorting, funds can either borrow scripts or buy back from open market in due time to cover their short positions.

"Likewise if they long. Epf lends stock for them." Is this correct??

EPF fund managers selling to their personal offshore trading accounts. Later they will buy it back from it. EPF managers wins, Malaysian people lose.

I do not believe EPF is losing $$ on Maybank. It has held huge chunks of Maybank shares since day one. Even if they buy, their avg cost is low.

What is going on ? Maybank is still profitable but share price???

Posted by drkervokian > 2016-09-01 15:16 | Report Abuse

Funds are shorting Maybank as EPF is selling, RM 7.60 is the likely bottom.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2016-09-01 15:44 | Report Abuse

Pushing down Maybank share price so that DRP price can be fixed even lower. Strategy by big institutions.

Posted by batistuta87 > 2016-09-01 15:46 | Report Abuse

but buy at higher price, cry without tears, is blood.
