HUAWEI Technologies’ latest smartphone clearly demonstrates wireless speeds akin to Apple’s latest iPhones in numerous tests, as more details emerge about a gadget labelled a Chinese breakthrough despite US tech sanctions.
Testing by Bloomberg News of Huawei’s new US$900-plus flagship model shows bandwidth similar to other 5G phones. That aligned with blog posts and videos on Chinese social media that claimed the device came with 5G capabilities.
The gadget, which went on sale this week without the typical fanfare of a product launch, fanned patriotic fervour as it was seen to represent China’s ability to get around US sanctions.
Shenzhen-based Huawei has been at the centre of intensifying US trade curbs on Chinese businesses, which American officials say are based on national security concerns.
The Mate 60 Pro achieved speeds in excess of 350 Mbps or megabits-per-second in testing on China Mobile’s network in Hong Kong.
Videos posted to the Weibo social service showed the handset approaching 1 Gbps or gigabit-per-second.
BEIJING, Sept 1 (Reuters) - China's cyberspace regulator has received 110 applications from Chinese technology companies such as Huawei and Alibaba for approvals related to their generative artificial intelligence $(AI)$ models and products, it said on Friday.
The list published by the Cyberspace Administration of China $(CAC)$ highlights the demand for ChatGPT-like products in the world's second-largest economy.
In July, Tesla reported its Q2 earnings, which once again highlighted the company's status as a low-margin car manufacturer that needs to continuously reduce prices to maintain delivery volume. Musk indicated on the conference call that the price-slashing would continue, as seen in August in China. Instead of discussing the report in detail, the commentary includes a few tweets that provide insights into the situation.
Tesla recently announced that it will open its U.S. charging stations to cars from other manufacturers, who will adopt Tesla's connector and charging protocol. This move may cost Tesla more in lost auto sale profits than the potential profits from charging, as competitors will also adopt the protocol without paying Tesla for it. The commentary questions the validity of any increase in Tesla's stock price attributed to this development.
The commentary goes on to highlight the increasing competition Tesla faces in the electric vehicle market. Many other companies now offer comparable or better real-world range, better interiors, similar or faster charging speeds, and higher quality. Tesla ranks poorly in reliability surveys and faces competition from various models in different segments. The competition is not limited to electric vehicles, as traditional car manufacturers are also entering the market with their own electric models.
