Smokers, vapers and tobacco companies like British American Tobacco Malaysia Bhd may be impacted. The government will impose an excise duty of 10% on devices for all types of electronic and non-electronic cigarettes including vape effective Jan 1.
Meanwhile, liquid used in electronic cigarettes will attract an excise duty at a rate of 40 sen per millilitre.
Usually Custom Dept will start testing SOP for importation of Cigarette next week after Budget Announcement....The coordination takes months prepare so by 1 Jan 2021, it will kick start without problem. However smuggling syndicate will avoid a direct confrontation so smuggling activities will plunge in 4Q20....you will see BAT revenue flying up in 4Q20

Previously Vape is all illegally imported. BAT also bring a small amount But BAT Cannot displace VAP products on Legal Display Cig.Counter bcos No Taxes are paid ( more like No commercial License ) Now it is all Legal bcos Gov impose a Tax. BAT can now displace and Sell Openly at All Commercial Counters ( big, big difference---Vol. will jump like crazy )
Previously, i buy Vape at street corner Or fr. Bangla Runners Or some shop that displace Photo only ( if you want they run / rush across a back lane and bring your item ----like illegal DVD transaction
Government revenues dropped so much and needs to find every opportunity to increase tax, one of the best way is to ‘hapus’ contrabands and legal brands will just grow crazily and translate into higher tax contribution from legal cigarettes players...
Put it this way, if you have invested in BAT, you’d want the share price to go up. If you’re so pessimistic about this budget, I suggest don’t waste your time in this forum....

If BAT gained just 20% from illegal tobacco market mean every quarter can get at least 40sen dividend and turn out RM1.60 div per share annually. so nice.

This is their duty, they should have done this much earlier. I think they need to do much more and should be measured with KPI.
