Cash rich company cannot go bankrupt. Buying back shares every day need money. Parkson still has shares in PRGL and PRA which can be sold for money.
Posted by pypw > Feb 25, 2016 08:53 AM | Report Abuse Why is he still so confident keep buying back the shares. Don't he know the company making loss could be bankrupt soon.
The actual net asset value for Parkson is $2.59,even business losses had replace back by continuing selling asset.... the total net asset is increase not reduce. Company still have alot of asset can be sell that mean is under control and stable.
Forget bout PHB. It won't be making money as long as China's economy is still in weakness. And this could last the whole of 2016 and half of 2017. By then, it s almost the 10 years cycle since 2008. Would the economy global crisis happens in 2018? If yes, PHB has no chance to rebound until 2019.
If you really want to buy for some reason, including to average down, I feel the better thing to do is to WAIT first. "If buying at 1.50 had been a 'good' price, then 0.88 is better"...? No. Because it can always get lower. By how much, no one knows. Heck, this might be the lowest point ever, and the price will start recovering from tomorrow. Or not (which is more likely).
The point is, we will be guessing either way. I feel it's much better to let the charts indicate a bottom has been reached AND it's clearly recovering again. Not doing anything IS an action too. Keep your capital in cash for now, if Parkson is what you want to buy. There will come the time when the price moves the other direction. It definitely isn't now...yet.
Fundamentally this business is losing market share year by year. It happens globally due to the rise of online shopping. It used to have bright prospect but not anymore. Investing is all about its future prospects. I'm not saying its irrelevant already. People will still shop at departmental store. People will still go. But the middle class are also very tech savvy now. They prefer shop online which is cheaper, convenient etc etc. I shop a lot at lazada nowadays. My friends too. My parents , they dont shop at all. Get the idea?
Just face it. This business is being disrupted quite a while ago. Not only in Malaysia or China. Even in America, JC Penny stock is also being hammered. I can go list more other department stores business facing the same fate.
And Parkson issue is not just this alone. In China, Parkson has lost its shine to its ever growing competitors. It has become like our old Yaohan , slowly bleeding..... then u know. They cant compete with Chinese players. They simply can't. Period.
Will Parkson go bankrupt? No, i don't think so. It still has assets. If you want to invest in growth/future earnings etc, think twice.
The people. Does WC has good reputation? You answer yourself. Look at all his other listed companies.
Nowadays I try to go with the flow. Especially in trying to spot a trend, and getting in. Easier said than done though. There is always this "Already gone up a lot lah...", and getting to my bad habits of trying to catch the bottom of counters. I've had successes, and it's very satisfying. But alot of the time, the darn counters would go down further! Even though they were already 'cheap'. Have to accept the reality of this one: a counter STILL can go down even more. Which is why I now try to catch things that are going up.
With Parkson, I don't really know about its business prospects. As with the other companies. Oh, I'd read what the investment bank analysts say, of course. And I'd look at basics like EPS and the dividend yield. The latter is very important if you intend to hold for some time. Always nice to receive these dividends. Provided the share price hasn't gone down too much. With Parkson etc., I will be a "fair weather friend". If it's not doing well, I stay away. But watch. When it starts to perform, I will be its buddy :-) Have to take care of OUR interest first and foremost.
This book is the result of the author's many years of experience and observation throughout his 26 years in the stockbroking industry. It was written for general public to learn to invest based on facts and not on fantasies or hearsay....

Revenue increase is good sign. Perhaps Parkson only need to close more unprofitable stores.
