KUALA LUMPUR (March 21): The Malaysian Immigration Department has prepared 970,000 passport books for the renewal of the Malaysian International Passport, following the reopening of the country's borders this April 1.
Immigration director-general Datuk Seri Khairul Dzaimee Daud said the total is expected to be able to accommodate the needs of Malaysians who wish to renew their passports to go abroad till July this year, adding that they would restock the books afterwards.
“The projected numbers are based on the statistics of passport renewals in our country before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, which was around 2.3 million to 2.5 million annually," he said on the Bicara Naratif programme, which that was broadcast live on RTM1 on Monday (March 21) night.
Meanwhile, to overcome the problem of congestion at international entry points during the month of Ramadan, which begins in April, and umrah pilgrims, Khairul Dzaimee said they would encourage pilgrims to use the autogate system instead of the manual counters.
“It is to enable entry into the country and exit procedures to run smoothly. In addition, we will open special counters for pilgrims who are unable to use the autogate," he said.
Ismail Sabri said through this project, the foundation would receive returns in kind and in cash, including 58,000 sq ft lettable office space, a 3,000 sq ft fully furnished office for the

The proposed project will have an estimated gross development value of RM438.9 million, which is expected to contribute 25% or more of the group’s net profit and/or net assets.
Pasukhas recently announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Pasukhas Products Sdn Bhd had ventured into the coal business segment to supply three vessels with steam coal at RM60.4 million, out of the anchorage point of South Kalimantan, Indonesia.

KUALA LUMPUR (March 22): Local authorities in the country have recorded a total reduction in greenhouse (GHG) emissions in 2021, totalling 157,923.23 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent for low carbon zones.
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said a reduction of 12,975.85 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent were reported by low carbon partners.
"A total of 13 low carbon zones and 30 low carbon partners received Diamond recognition for GHG emission reduction initiatives in five key elements, namely energy, water, waste, mobility and greenery," he said when officiating the Low Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) 2021 award ceremony here Tuesday (March 22).
Also present was Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) chief executive officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor.
Tuan Ibrahim said a total of 33 cities nationwide have been identified under the Low Carbon City Master Plan to achieve high absolute GHG emission reductions.
He said, 70 local authorities had been given exposure to the concept and capacity building through the LCC2030C programme, of which 41 authorities were actively involved in implementing low carbon city initiatives.
"As an incentive to strengthen the implementation of the low carbon city initiatives, the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) has introduced the Low Carbon Cities Catalyst Grant (GeRAK), amounting to RM35 million. This grant will be given to local authorities nationwide," he said, adding that 18 local authorities in Kelantan, Terengganu, Sarawak, Perak, Johor and Federal Territories have implemented projects using the allocation.
Tuan Ibrahim said the implementation of GeRAK is expected to involve 146 local companies nationwide, with a GHG reduction potential of approximately 110,969 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
He said a total of 141 local authorities had received allocation to implement low carbon city initiatives, covering the five key elements in public spaces.
Meanwhile, Shamsul Bahar said the LCC2030C, which was introduced in 2011, focuses on aspects of the low carbon cities framework (LCCF) and assessment system.
“The term ‘challenge’ under this initiative refers to the challenge posed on local authorities and organisations to reduce greenhouse gases in their areas of jurisdiction,” he said.
He said the initiative, which was launched in 2019, was part of the government’s efforts to increase the application of the LCCF.
The Low Carbon City Challenge award aims at recognising the commitments made by local authorities, government agencies and private organisations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the LCC2030C programme.

ACE Market-listed Pasukhas Group Bhd (PGB) has proposed to acquire a 92.5% stake in PT Tenaga Listrik Gorontala (PT TLG), a subsidiary of PT Bangun Daya Perkasa (PT BDP), with a view to firm up its foothold in the Indonesian power plant sector.
In a statement today, PGB said it had via its unit Pasukhas Energy Sdn Bhd submitted an approval letter to PT BDP for the acquisition.
PGB said PT TLG is principally involved in mining and power supply generation.

KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI maintained a strong lead at midday as a investor sentiment in equities markets turned positive following a greater sense of certainty over US interest rate hikes and falling bond prices.
At 12.30pm, the benchmark index was up 13.02 points to 1,598.83 as bank counters rallied amid expectations of a higher interest rate environment.
Maybank rose nine sen to R8.92, Public Bank gained two sen to RM4.64, CIMB climbed seven sen to RM5.37 and Hong Leong Bank added 50 sen to RM20.66.
Press Metal rose 17 sen to RM6.16, IHH gained five sen to RM6.56 and IS added six sen to RM7.31.
Meanwhile, tech counters were up with MPI adding RM1.82 to RM37.92, Vitrox rising 58 sen to RM8.39, KESM climbing 34 sen to RM9 and D&O gaining 28 sen to RM4.77.
Top actives were CSH up 0.5 sen to 16.5 sen, Sapura Energy unchanged at 3.5 sen and Pasukhas flat at two sen.
Meanwhile, Asian equities rallied as bond prices tumbled following expectations of more aggressive US rate hikes.
Japan's Nikkei surged 2.7%, South Korea's Kospi rose 0.5% while China's composite index erased earlier gains to fall 0.1%.
