Karex Bhd, the world's largest condom maker, saw its net profit for the fourth quarter ended June 30, 2018 (4QFY18) fall 49.83% to RM1.46 million from RM2.9 million previously, due to rising production costs which outpaced adjustments to its selling prices.

Revenue for the quarter inched up 1.95% to RM93.42 million from RM91.63 million a year ago, due to higher volume of condom sales, particularly from the sexual wellness and medical segments, Karex said.

For the full year (FY18), Karex said net profit plunged 63.85% to RM10.1 million from RM27.95 million a year earlier.

This is despite revenue rising 12.88% to RM408.01 million from RM361.45 million in FY17.

Karex said lower earnings in FY18 were due to a less favourable economic climate and higher distribution and administrative costs, despite higher revenue.

KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 29): Credit Suisse analyst Joanna Cheah upgraded the recommendation on Karex Bhd to neutral from underperform.

* Price target (PT) raised to 76 sen from 48 sen. Karex average PT is 44 sen.

* Karex had 0 buys, 1 hold, 7 sells previously: Bloomberg data

* Analysts lowered their consensus one-year target price for the stock by 48 percent in the past three months. Forecasts range from 29 sen to 76 sen.

Performance Metrics

* Investors who followed Cheah's recommendation would have received a negative 31 percent return in the past year, compared with the negative 50 percent return on the shares.

Condom business is a simple business to understand. You sell condoms as revenue, others are just expense, remaining is your profit. Analysts calculate their TP based on vigorous model, taking into account of everything. So when they said 30 cents to 50 cents, coefficient is pretty much the same, among analysts, just some give higher future PE expectation-->higher share price. Some give lower and gloomier outlook (which is correct in current environment).
