Share Buyback Again

Posted by poorman123 > 2020-09-23 17:59 | Report Abuse

Share buyback again... This is getting unhealthy, does it mean nobody wants to buy the stock?

Posted by LongTermInvestment > 2020-09-23 20:25 | Report Abuse

poorman123 go google on what is the benefits of share buyback. Your statement shows that you never invest. Lol. Lmao

Posted by poorman123 > 2020-09-23 21:39 | Report Abuse

Lol, I know what is share buyback, but the frequency of buyback is ridiculous. I observed the shares for multiple days, looks like the buy volume is from buyback only not from retailers nor investment bank which is very unhealthy

Posted by poorman123 > 2020-09-23 21:43 | Report Abuse

The volume today is only 138000, but company buyback 83000 units, it's about 70-80% of total volume. This is very bad. It's like this company cannot attract investors.

ranhill is a cash cow company for some of the funds or entity

if you realize that, the top 30 shareholders already own 78% of shares in overall

mean the shares that in the market is not much, but it is stable cause all the shareholders have confidence and hold tight, and many treat ranhill as a cash cow for their fund

it is depend on what kind of investor you are, if you are looking at a goreng stock, i do not think ranhill is a good option, but, if for ROE, DY, then different story

For share buyback is good when the company have stable cash flow with not much capital expenditure needed for expansion, the company decided to buy back their company share which they think their share price is undervalued.

If you are a long term investor, you will feel great that the company support their own share. There are a few options that the company can do with the treasury share:
1. Cancel the share & boost the EPS - Good for long term investor
2. Sell the share to public when the price is good - Extra Gain
3. Sell to own staff or ESOS, motivation for the team
4. Give away a share dividend - Good for the loyal investor (the company buy back the share from the investor that do not want to keep their company share, and give to the loyal investor that holding their share, which they know loyal investor wont simply sell their cash cow share)

Think about it!

As a fundamental investor, i always believe, an undervalued company share price wont be undervalued for long, when investors discover this undiscovered gem

After a study on the average PE for Malaysia Utilities Sector that listed in KLSE, with 26.41 average PE.

From the study, Ranhill & Malakof among the lowest PE of around 12 compare to the industry average of 26.41. Which is only 50%. Consider undervalued? Think about it.

But if compare ROE between Ranhill with Malakof, Ranhill with better ROE of around 12% compare to Malakof of around 7%. If compare to the industry average ROE of 9.25%, Ranhill still come with better ROE of 12% compare to 9.25% industry average.

In terms of DY, Ranhill with 5.88% compare to industry average of 5.38%, which also beat it.

In conclusion:
Ranhill VS Industry average:
1. PE - 12 vs 26.41 (Undervalued)
2. ROE - 12% vs 9.25% (Outperformed)
3. DY - 5.88% vs 5.38% (Outperformed)

Think about it!

Poorman123 Thanks for sharing. Understand where you coming from, however, the company's fundamental still intact and good. Although it is not in the limelight like those gloves stocks.

Thanks for your understanding, nice info that top 30 shareholders held a total of 78% shares. Since epf, tabung haji, and a lot of institution are still inside we should be fine. It would be nice if we have buyback from major shareholders instead of company share buy back though, and I hope we can see the update of their Indonesia project soon

if you look closely at the shareholders list, more than 30% of the share is hold by Hamdan, and Johor holding around 20%. Using the company cash to do sharebuyback is not really a good move, cause the share price is rather fair instead of undervalued right now. The company should have save cash for future capital growth or to pay back loan, since they already have enough treasury share to distribute for share dividend.

The share price is fair or undervalued is very depend on each investor calculation. If taking the industry average PE, Ranhill is undervalued with 12 PE vs 26.41 (industry average). If you attended fundamental investment class, you will have a ruler in mind. With the current bank interest rates of around 1-2%, the average PE that 20 below will consider undervalued now, if the rates back to 3-4%, average PE that below 10 is consider undervalued. And another thing for Ranhill DY is more than bank interest rates if buy now. So, it is depend on each investor, how you look into it. Happy investing!

hahaha, support support. My guru told me as a fundamental investor, when we bought a company share, we have to treat it as our own business, understand it, and monitor it. Is like we open a mix rice stall, normally we wont ask people to order wan tan mee next door. Still remember the time i bought the CI Holding share (many years back, and the Permanis Company still under them) which i invest a lot after my study, i even visit the Aeon outlets & Giant to see how good the sale of Tropicana Twister which that time is a hit juice drink. I even ask the foreign worker that do stock arrange on the feedback of the product. I also visit their Annual Meeting, go thru many times of their QR & Annual Report. I still remember the time that i bought in, the company still losing money but the gap narrow, i believe on it, even i bought until my reminsier ask me, what company i bought so much, why so confidence, no movement and loss making company. I told him that this company selling Pepsi brand & Tropicana Twister and the story, he still laugh at me. At last i kept the stock for around 2 years. Within that few years, if any of my friend ask me for drink, i only will meet them either KFC, Old Town or etc. Reason is, these outlets selling Pepsi related drinks. My friends all say me gila, but i told them that if you selling wan tan mee, will u ask people buy next door mi hun soup? Of course have to support own company. After keeping for few years, the company business start to turn profit, due to the transformation & also good respond from the juice product, i earn my 1st bucket of money from them. If i can recall (2015 -2016), the share price up 300% and then bonus issue, after that the share price up again until the same price before bonus issue. I sold half of my holding, and keep the balance until they sold their permanis business, and pay us back the huge cash dividend, then i decided to sell it cause their management informed all the shareholders that they haven't have any plan after they sold the Permanis, but they have huge cash on hand, and they have 6 months time to observe and buy in business to avoid PN17. So, i decided to cash out all my CI Holding share after that.

Sorry for the long story, but i am a fundamental investor, sometimes people will laugh at us, when we buy in some stock that no one want. But i feel comfortable with the stock that no one mention, because i can quietly buy when i have cash flow, before it shoot up. But of course, i might be wrong too, anyway, this is my way of doing investment. Everyone have their own direction, just have to remember the rule no 1 'Do not loss money', rule no 2, 'Do not forget the rule no 1'.

Happy investing!

We refer to our earlier announcement dated 15 April 2019 and 20 March 2020.

On 1 October 2020, we have been advised by our legal counsel that the Learned Judge at the High Court at Kuala Lumpur had made an order in favour of Ranhill Utilities Berhad (“Ranhill”) in regards to Ranhill’s application to strike out the amended counterclaim of RM14.0 million by Dato’ Mohd Fakrunizam Bin Ibrahim (“Defendant”). Ranhill's application was allowed with cost of RM3,000.00.

Previously, Ranhill filed claim against the Defendant and the Learned Judge had made an order in favour of Ranhill ordering the Defendant to refund RM7.0 million to Ranhill with costs. The Learned Judge, despite allowing summary judgment, had previously allowed an application to amend the Statement of Defence to include a counterclaim.

The entire amount claimed from the Defendant of RM7.0 million have been impaired by Ranhill. However, pursuant to the order made in favour of Ranhill, we have commenced recovery procedures and any amount, if recovered, will be written back.

None of the directors, major shareholders and persons connected with the directors and major shareholders of Ranhill has any interest, direct or indirect, in the above matter.

Ranhill will make further announcement if there are any material development in respect of the above matter.

This announcement is dated 1 October 2020
