These incidents showcase how political infighting, partisan bickering, personal attacks, and the prioritization of power struggles over national welfare led to parliamentary sessions being bogged down by time-wasting debates. The focus on these non-rakyat-centric issues—especially during a time of national crisis—proved to be a major distraction from the real issues affecting the people, such as the pandemic’s economic and social consequences, healthcare, and unemployment.
This political climate can undermine trust in the legislative process and disillusion citizens who expect their elected representatives to focus on their needs rather than political games.

The Racial and Religious Debates
Context: In the same period, some of the debates took a racial or religious turn, often focusing on the privileges of certain groups or the rights of others.
Debates and Discussions:
There were arguments about whether certain groups were receiving undue privileges or being discriminated against. These debates were often inflammatory and failed to offer any solutions to ongoing national problems.
For example, debates about the usage of Jawi script in schools and the position of the Malay language were used as political tools by some MPs, without considering the broader implications for education or national unity.
Impact:
These debates often polarized MPs and the public, diverting attention from critical issues like economic recovery, healthcare, or infrastructure improvement.
The focus on identity politics rather than practical governance alienated some segments of the population and created more division in an already polarized society.

Allegations of Corruption and Mismanagement
Context: Throughout the political turmoil, there were numerous allegations of corruption and mismanagement, particularly against politicians who were perceived to have benefited from government contracts and appointments.
Debates and Discussions:
Some MPs tried to use the platform to attack rival politicians over corruption scandals, often accusing them of being self-serving rather than serving the rakyat.
However, these allegations were rarely followed by concrete action in terms of investigations or policy changes. Many times, the accusations seemed like political tactics designed to undermine the opposition rather than legitimate concerns for public accountability.
Impact:
This led to an atmosphere of mistrust in Parliament, with the public perceiving it as an arena where personal vendettas were more important than actual governance.
Allegations were often brought up in the heat of debate, but many were not investigated or pursued properly, leaving the public feeling dissatisfied with the lack of accountability.

The Malaysian Parliament, like many other third world parliaments, gets bogged down by endless issues that do not directly address the needs of the rakyat. These non-constructive debates often lead to frustration, public disillusionment, and a perception of wasted resources. Moving forward, there needs to be more focus on productive, solutions-based discussions that prioritize the needs of the people over partisan conflicts or personal interests.
