Advancing Malaysia's Green Energy Landscape


JOHOR, 20 JUNE 2024Tex Cycle Technology (M) Berhad (“Tex Cycle” or the “Group”), an established waste management and recycling solutions provider, in partnership with Green Lagoon Technology Sdn Bhd, is pleased to announce the commencement of operations at the GLT BP Power Sdn Bhd biogas power plant [Link]. This innovative facility in Bukit Pasir, Johor, signifies a transformative step in sustainable energy solutions for Malaysia, utilising advanced technology to convert palm oil mill effluent into clean energy.

This new facility converts palm oil mill effluent into biogas, significantly reducing environmental waste and providing a sustainable energy source. The centralised nature of the plant allows for more efficient management and greater scalability, setting the stage for future expansions and innovations in renewable energy.

The plant not only contributes to reducing carbon emissions but also supports the local economy by creating jobs and enhancing energy security. It embodies the synergy between environmental stewardship and economic development, reflecting the nation's broader goals for sustainability and green growth.

Mr. Gary Dass A/L Anthony Francis, Group Chief Executive Officer of Tex Cycle stated, "The operational start of the GLT BP Power plant is a landmark achievement in our ongoing commitment to sustainable energy. YB Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities stated, "Today’s project also demonstrates the potential of public-private partnerships to solve complex environmental challenges while boosting our economy. This includes the crucial commitment of the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA), which has been instrumental in the realization of this biogas power plant. Their dedication to developing renewable energy has been the driving force behind the implementation of this vision. Not forgetting the support from mill owners, which are Sime Darby Plantation and Hok Huat Group. Their cooperation and commitment have been crucial in advancing our environmental objectives, demonstrating the power of collective effort in enhancing sustainability."

Mr. Raymond Cheah, Chief Operating Officer of GLT BP Power Sdn Bhd stated, “We are proud to launch Malaysia's first centralised 3.5-megawatt biogas plant, which since April has already contributed over 1.6 million kilowatt-hours to the national grid. Our thanks go to partners like SD Guthrie and Hok Huat Group, whose support has been crucial in utilising palm oil mill effluent for clean energy production. This initiative not only aligns with Malaysia's energy transition goals but also sets a precedent for future organic waste transformation, ensuring a sustainable and greener future for our nation.”

Tex Cycle's initiative aligns with the Malaysian Government's focus on waste management compliance and renewable energy promotion, supporting national and global sustainability targets. The Group is poised for rapid growth in the renewable energy segment, highlighted by developments including Sabah’s first integrated scheduled waste management facility project, the recent acquisition of Meridian World Sdn. Bhd as well as partnering with Green Lagoon Technology Sdn Bhd for the first biogas power plant project. With a strong focus on its core business, Tex Cycle is eager to expand its market share in renewable energy and scheduled waste management.
