BETAMEK SECURES RM396,420 GOVERNMENT GRANT FOR DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION

Digital Transformation to Enhance Company’s IoT-Enabled Manufacturing Efficiency and Competitiveness

KUALA LUMPUR, 25 NOVEMBER 2024 Betamek Berhad ("Betamek" or the "Company"), an original design manufacturer ("ODM") and a leading player in electronics manufacturing services ("EMS”) for the automotive industry, has accepted a government grant of RM396,420 from the Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development (“MECD”), managed by Malaysia Industrial Development Finance Berhad (“MIDF”). This grant is a testament to the government’s commitment to fostering technological innovation across key industries, particularly in advanced manufacturing technologies like IoT, and supports Betamek’s pivotal digital transformation project.

This grant is part of a broader national initiative to foster technological innovation in key industries, which will enable Betamek to enhance Overall Equipment Effectiveness (“OEE”) through advanced IoT integration within its manufacturing operations over a 12-month period. The project aims to automate manual assembly line monitoring, integrate OEE data from Surface Mount Technology (“SMT”) machines for comprehensive analytics, and benchmark productivity against robotic lines to improve capacity for the growing electric vehicle (EV) demand, while allowing Betamek to stay at the forefront of digital advancement with the support of the government.

Betamek’s selection for this grant highlights the government’s recognition of the Company’s commitment to technological advancement and innovation. As Malaysia seeks to enhance its manufacturing capabilities through digital transformation, this grant positions Betamek as a front-runner in adopting IoT-enabled manufacturing solutions. It also reinforces the government’s ongoing support for local enterprises that drive competitive edge through technological advancements, especially within the high-growth automotive sector.

As an anchor partner, Perodua will play a crucial role in this initiative, allowing Betamek to deliver high-quality infotainment and electronic solutions that meet the demands of the automotive market. The funding underscores Betamek’s commitment to adopting cutting-edge technologies that will reduce costs, eliminate bottlenecks, and improve resource utilisation.

Encik Muhammad Fauzi Bin Abd Ghani, Executive Director of Betamek

Encik Muhammad Fauzi Bin Abd Ghani, Executive Director of Betamek, commented, “Securing this government grant is a significant milestone for Betamek, as it enables us to drive our digital transformation agenda forward. By integrating IoT technology into our manufacturing processes, we can improve our OEE, enhance productivity, and deliver higher-quality infotainment and electronic solutions at more competitive prices. This initiative also supports our goal of expanding into the ASEAN market, leveraging our advanced capabilities to meet regional demand.”

The project is set to have a broader impact beyond production efficiency. It aligns with Betamek's Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) objectives by promoting sustainable manufacturing practices, reducing waste, and optimising energy consumption. Additionally, the initiative will upskill Betamek’s workforce, training employees in the use of automation and data analytics tools, thus preparing them for future industry advancements and increasing career development opportunities within the company.

The grant-supported project comes at a pivotal time, as the global in-vehicle infotainment market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (“CAGR”) of 10.9%, reaching USD 31.4 billion by 2028. Betamek is poised to capitalise on this growth, with the digital transformation project expected to bolster its competitiveness both domestically and regionally.
