KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 23): Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), via its subsidiary TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd (TNB Remaco), is broadening its power plant maintenance business in Kuwait, with a multi-year maintenance programme agreement for the Shuaiba North Power Generation and Water Distillation Plant in Ahmadi.

In a statement on Tuesday, TNB reported that TNB Remaco had entered into a joint venture (JV) with Kuwaiti-based company Al Dhow Engineering, and inked a long-term service agreement with General Electric Global Services (GE Vernova).

“This collaboration aims to deliver maintenance solutions for the gas turbine at the Shuaiba North Power Generation and Water Distillation Plant in Al Ahmadi, owned by the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy of Kuwait,” TNB said.

This agreement aligns with the ministry’s broader initiative to modernise Kuwait’s power generation infrastructure, contributing to the global effort for a sustainable energy transition.

TNB Remaco chairman Muhammad Nazri Pazil commented that the strategic collaboration aligns with TNB’s commitment to pioneering advancements in the global energy landscape.

“The two partners have their own strengths and expertise that will ensure the reliability of Kuwait's power infrastructure, and contribute to the broader goals of energy transition and sustainability,” he said.

“The TNB Remaco-Al Dhow JV, coupled with GE's digital capabilities, is poised to enhance long-term maintenance and performance at the Shuaiba North Power Generation and Water Distillation Plant, ensuring optimal reliability,” he added.

The contract encompasses upgrades to the gas turbine’s combustion system, and the provision of technical advisory services for plant-related issues and necessary enhancements.

TNB said that under a five-year contract, the JV partners will provide comprehensive planned and unplanned maintenance for the gas turbine and its auxiliaries at the plant.

Meanwhile, Nazri said that TNB Remaco currently manages four additional ongoing maintenance service projects in different Kuwaiti power plants.

Kuwait is important as a major international market, alongside TNB Remaco's activities in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Vietnam, he added.
