KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has asked Malaysians today to be critical against the government to ensure the administration and the policies implemented are on the right track.

He said the public played an important role in ensuring that the new government did not commit mistakes in administering the country.

“I told Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that I will invite the people to monitor every elected representative and minister, including the deputy prime minister, who is also my wife.

“This is our role right now, not to lambast, but to admonish with love so that this new administration will implement policies properly,” said Anwar.

He said this when speaking at a breaking fast event at the Nurul Hidayah Mosque before breaking fast in Pandan here.

His wife, Deputy Prime Minister and Pandan MP Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, was also present.

The 70-year-old politician also reiterated that he does not want any government posts while his relationship with Dr Mahathir was very good.

“I support all efforts by the prime minister to improve the country. It is enough for me that my wife, Wan Azizah along with Tun Dr Mahathir takes the lead in the government,” he said.

On a separate note, Anwar also said that up until today, there were still people who asked him if it was true that he accepted Dr Mahathir’s apology.

“I told them that it is true as people apologised to us out of goodness, and we should accept (it). We are not out to make the people miserable and also to steal money,” he said.

Dr Wan Azizah also urged Malaysians today to join hands with the new administration in rebuilding the nation towards the future.

The PKR president said the government alone cannot achieve such a thing.

“Both the people and government should work together as a team to further develop our country,” she said.

“After we change the regime, let us bring the nation to a higher level and fill this victory or transition.”
