GEORGE TOWN: PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin has shot down the proposal that Bangsa Malaysia should begin by unifying the Malays first.

She said that if the end result was to achieve a unified nation, then it should not focused at unifying the Malays, alone.

“Bangsa Malaysia is for all, for Chinese, Indians, Iban, Kadazan, not for Malays alone,” she said today.

She had been asked to comment on a report by New Straits Times on Bangsa Malaysia which was agreeable to Pas, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), Umno and PKR.

Pas deputy president Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the Islamist party welcomed it as long as the other parties could adhere to their condition, i.e. the party cannot be a puppet or close to DAP.

Elaborating on the Bangsa Malaysia idea, Zuraida reminded Pas that it was an Islamic party,

“It goes across the race, not only for Malays. Maybe they forgot about that,” she added.
