ALOR GAJAH: Don't hold your breath for the 15th general Election (GE15) to be held anytime soon.
This as the general election would only be held after at least 80-per cent of the people have received their vaccine inoculation under the National Immunisation Programme.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Mohd Yusof said NIP was more important than GE15 as the Perikatan Nasional government was more concerned about human life compared to the need to hold the general election.
He explained that the government expects between 70 to 80 per cent of the people to be inoculated by February or March next year.
Redzuan said only after the inoculation target is reached should GE15 be considered with the power to dissolve Parliament resting with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al -Mustafa Billah Shah.
"In the case of NIP, we cannot compromise it with (by holding) GE15 because it is related to human life while GE15 is a political matter.
"Therefore, GE15 will not be held as long as NIP has not reached between 70 to 80 per cent and it also depends on the readiness of the Election Commission (EC) to organise it," he said.
The minister told this to reporters after opening the Pak Wan Prihatin Tour program for the Durian Tunggal State Assembly (DUN) in Kampung Pantai Belimbing, here today.
Redzuan, more affectionately known as Pak Wan among the local community here, also presented food donations to community members and visited the sick in several villages.
Also present was the Alor Gajah Pas Commissioner, Shabudin Senin.
The Alor Gajah Member of Parliament was commenting on the remarks of Umno election director Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman that ministers from the Barisan Nasional component members would resign by August if Parliament is not dissolved by then.
Redzuan stressed that based on Tajuddin's claim even if all Umno ministers resign, the PN government will continue to stand strong because it is a coalition of parties that gives the importance of consensus and provides the best services to the people.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) supreme council member stressed that the party's political bureau is preparing plans to face Umno in all the all seats likely to be contested by Bersatu in GE15.
"Umno has announced that it will contest in all the seats it contested in GE14 and we are ready to face it," he said.
To face GE15, he said Bersatu will strengthen cooperation with Pas and other parties affiliated in PN, in line with the concept of unity championed by the party, he added.
