Save Malaysia from what? Netizens take potshot at PAS-backed “Wave to Save Malaysia” talk

BARELY a month after the so-called non-partisan Demo Rakyat Lawan Anwar (Round 1) rally (which ended a flop with an estimated 200 participants), another somehow similarly themed event - Gelombang Selamatkan Malaysia (literally, “Wave to Save Malaysia”) - will unfold tonight (July 13) in Gombak, Selangor.

The only exception is that unlike the former which was a street rally, the latter is a talk co-organised by the information arm of National PAS and its official mouthpiece HarakahDaily, and forms part of the Siri Jelajah Selamatkan Malaysia (Save Malaysia Tour Series).

“Curious to enquire save Malaysia from what and who?” teased Kami KEADILAN (@kamikeadilan) in a tweet.

“Of the faces in this poster, some have court cases, some whose children are looters (penyakau), some are traitors, some are that of khawarij nature (a term denoting Muslims with extremist views or engaging in violence against other Muslims). It would be better if Malaysia is saved from the faces in this poster.”

Among those familiar faces in the poster are Bersatu president and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang, Gerakan president Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai, Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) president P. Punithan, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad and Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

“Having been given the opportunity, they burden the people with formulas that bring snaring returns. Given the time, they have even seized power with superficial and unfair initiatives,” claimed the event organisers in a statement.

“Even after being criticised, they continue to make a fool out of the people as they please. People like this can no longer be given a face. Malaysia needs to be saved immediately!” it added.

However, certainly not every Malaysian would buy that perception. Below are some self-explanatory reactions from supposedly pro-Pakatan Harapan (PH) backers after opposition-slant social media influencer Solisidtor (@Solisidtor) rallied support for tonight’s “Wave to Save Malaysia” campaign.

For those interested, the “Save Malaysia Tour Series” can be viewed live online from the HarakahDaily social media page. - July 13, 2024
