SUBANG JAYA: Those unhappy with the Selangor speaker's decision not to vacate the Selat Klang seat, including Perikatan Nasional representatives, can take the matter to court, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said opposition assemblymen also had the right to do so if they wanted to challenge the decision.

"According to the rights of the involved party, they are entitled to bring this matter to court as stipulated in the relevant (anti-party hopping) law," he said at the Platform Selangor Night Award 2024 here today.

This remark came on the heels of Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San's declaration that the Selat Klang seat would be retained by Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

Lau, in a statement yesterday, said he was "not persuaded that there is sufficient evidence to prove a casual vacancy" in the state constituency.

Rashid was among the seven Bersatu elected representatives whose memberships were revoked by the party for declaring their support for the unity government. He was dismissed from Bersatu after expressing support for Amirudin's leadership

Selangor opposition leader Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali submitted a notice to Lau on Rashid's membership termination on June 21, giving the speaker 21 days to determine the status of the Selat Klang seat.
