KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government is optimistic with the development of two Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) complexes in Bantul and Serudong.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said those complexes are to strengthen cross-border security and improve immigration services.

He added those projects, which were approved last year, mark the first international land border crossings in Sabah and are part of a collaboration with the Home Ministry.

He said there is a need to improve cross-border security, particularly with Sabah's proximity to neighbouring countries including Indonesia, which is currently developing its new capital, Nusantara.

"Sabah shares borders with several neighbouring countries, including Indonesia.

"Thus, the security along our border with Kalimantan must be strengthened," he said during the Serumpun Kasih Seluhur Budi event at Sabah International Convention Centre here.

He said these ICQS complexes represent a significant step in realising the opening of the first international land border crossings in Sabah.

Meanwhile, Hajiji urged the Sabah Immigration Department to enhance its services to meet the increasing demands of the public.

"With the growing needs of our citizens, it is vital for all Immigration Department personnel to provide efficient, friendly, and professional services."

He acknowledged the department's challenges in managing the entry of tourists and foreign nationals, particularly due to the state's vast area of over 72,000 square kilometres.
