Review & Outlook
Following last week's profit-taking correction, negative signals on technical momentum indicators on the FBM KLCI, coupled with the bearish trend indicators, imply a continuation of downtrend for the index this week. Furthermore, underwhelming stimulus measures and October economic data from China as well as uncertainty surrounding the future US President Trump's trade policies and lagging effect from the Federal Reserve's future rate cuts should spillover to dampen local market sentiment.
On the index, immediate chart support is revised down to 1,588, which is the 38.2%FR of the rally from 1,529 low (6 Aug) to 1,684 high (29 Aug), with next crucial support at 1,565, the 23.6%FR level, followed by the key 1,550 support. On the upside, expect immediate resistance from the overhead 100-day moving average at 1,630, next will be at 1,648, the 76.4%FR level, followed by the September peak of 1,675.
On stock picks for this week, selective key oil & gas, property, technology and telco players should attract fresh buying interest, after recent sharp profit-taking corrections saw their share prices dip significantly to cheaper bargain levels.
