Ever heard of the phrase, “An apple a day keeps the Doctor away?”. Well, it was first mentioned in 1866 in a publication called “Notes and Queries”. It came in a proverb, “Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread”. Apple has Vitamin A, C, E & Beta Carotene & other benefits.
In 1934 the first known Multivitamin was concocted. It was said that the people who reside in the countryside live longer than those in the cities. The reason was due to the availability of fresh fruits & vegetables – which contain vital vitamins & minerals.
I did not pay much attention to the positive attributes of the multivitamin until I heard a Sermon by Dr. Wally Tow. Dr. Wally Tow Siang Hwa was a The Top Ranking Doctor in K.K. Hospital after Dr. Benjamin Sheares. In his message he mentioned the Virtues of Taking A Multivitamin Pill First Thing In The Morning With A Glass Of Plain Water.
Taking A Multivitamin Tablet On Empty Stomach With A Glass of Water First Thing In The Morning? What an idea? Will I get gastritis & stomach ulcers? Looking at Dr. Tow, in Calvary Pandan BP Church, Singapore, gave me a sense of assurance.
He is past 80 years old. Still strong physically & mentally. Every year jetting off to foreign shores in many preaching engagements.
Almost a decade now, I have been taking a Multivite every morning without fail. And true to his advise I seldom fall sick. This is the Doctor’s best prescription from the Pulpit – not from the Clinic – mind you.
The Year was 1973 – 40 years ago. The Place? Cochrane Road Secondary School, Kuala Lumpur. On this occasion the Malaysia Army sent their Military Officers to recruit bright, aspiring students to join the army.
In his speech the Commanding Officer digressed and gave this valuable advise: “Don’t brush your teeth before breakfast. You should only brush your teeth after breakfast!” At that the entire crowd of eager students laughed aloud. How can? It’s so dirty? Eating breakfast without first brushing teeth?
He explained that after having brushed our teeth at night before sleeping, our set of teeth is still clean when we wake up in the morning. No need to brush again before breakfast. And if we brush our teeth only after breakfast, our teeth will be fresh & clean till lunch time.
The idea was new. Sound rather unusual, unconventional & out of place since the purpose of the Meeting was to get students to join the Army as a Career. Here he is giving advise about Dental Health?
Anyway, I took up the suggestion. It has been forty years now since 1973. And it has saved me much time from going to the dentist. It has also saved me a lot of money – both from doctor & dentist.
“A MULTIVITAMIN A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY & BRUSH YOUR TEETH AFTER BREAKFAST KEEPS THE DENTIST AT BAY”
Follow this advise and you and your family, too, will save much time and tons of money!
