Just puzzled who is lying. Calvintaneng promoted Netx so enthusiastically; he declared he sold 8 houses to invest into Netx. This news was not manufactured. It did come from Calvin's post. If not, why was Calvin being reminded on this point intermittently by those few who interacted with him in Netx forum.

Syahir from PAS had a debate with Rafizi recently. Now, Syahir has proposed a debate on education.
Can you see how difficult it is to have a non-emotional discussion on this topic? Can sensitive issues related to education be avoided in an open debate? Thus, I hope this debate does not take place. Perhaps, can discuss in a closed forum, and I am also very sure, certain basic fundamental difficult issues cannot be changed.

Good to see Liew Chin Tong's piece and the rebuttal by Kassim Abdul Samad. There are 2 sides (maybe more) to any issues. We can examine these and make up our mind independently.
Yes, BN faces challenges ahead. Its leadership maybe challenged. Will it continue to support PH as a coalition partner? Why did they lose so badly? Was it due to its association with DAP? [In the 1998 election, TDM was saved by the Chinese votes, when the Chinese voters deserted DAP. Why? Its association with PAS was a dominant reason then.]
Let us wait for issues to erupt and how these will direct the future of these political parties.

PRN is over. The results 3-3.
PH can now move forward less hindered to implement their manifesto and reforms. Hopefully, by the next election, PRU 16, PH has gained the trust of a portion of the majority to be re-elected into government again.
These various reforms will remain even should the government changes in the future; and will be for the greater good of ALL Malaysians. Just like the anti-hopping law, misbehaving politicians are put in their places to respect their masters: the people who elected them.
The fight against corruption should continue and relentlessly too. The might of the law should be applied onto those who are proven corrupt to stop this destructive activity which has festered for too long. Imprisonment should be imposed on those found guilty of corruption.
Hopefully, with new measures and political will, the GDP will grow in a healthy way to benefit ALL Malaysians.
C+G + I + (X-I) = GDP
Leakages from the economy due to corruption and wastages (L) can be represented thus in this formula:
C+G+I+(X-I) - L = GDP
By reducing L, the Malaysian economy will be for the better. Given a more stable government and with four and half year with no political tests ahead, this means political stability.
With political stability, hopefully Malaysia can attract more FDI as elucidated by PM Anwar Ibrahim.
Malaysian can look forward to 4.5 years of economic growth and political calm.

Within its order book, both the automotive and medical segment continue to provide a bright spot in the Group’s order flow. The Group has come a long way in making inroads into the automotive segment and at present, the Group has built a strong market positioning in the automotive segment with its comprehensive range of product solutions to cater for this growth segment. The automotive segment will continue to take the pole position as the Group’s leading revenue contributor for the coming years as the Group continues to make progressive breakthrough in its new product development and capabilities. Contributing to this sentiment is the growing
market trends and policy efforts in supporting EV coupled with the recent emission
regulations and electrification targets pushing long term EV production in regions like
Europe and the United States. Riding on this current wave of development, the Group’s
latest establishment of its offshore presence in Germany is timely in enabling the Group
to expand its market share and widen its customer base.

Business is still very challenging. Not exactly smooth sailing yet. Among the glove companies, Kossan looks more resilient.
2023-08-09 13:22 | Report Abuse
Commentary on Prospects and Targets
Strong headwinds in the glove sector are expected to continue as the global oversupply situation persists. Aggressive capacity expansion by regional players, coupled with excessive inventory build-up during the pandemic have led to the current market supply-demand imbalance and industry-wide suboptimal operating level.
The domestic glove industry has earlier contended with increased operating costs, such as higher energy and labour costs. As a result, glove manufacturers are impacted with operating margins compression as the average selling price for rubber gloves remains competitive amid minimal success with the incremental costs pass through.

@JohnD0ugh Re: "The explanation of icapital.biz Bhd's superior performance" It's very hard to objectively assess the fund manager's performance when the period's presented by the fund manager are so selective! Why choose to show numbers "for the two years ended 25 July 2023"? Where are the numbers for 1, 3 and 5 years? ,Why 25 July 2023?

The recent selective performance of iCap for the last 3 years was not a honest way to talk about the performance of iCap. It is actually very misleading and an honest writer will not put too much into this way of thinking.
Better to do what Buffett has done in reporting the performance of Berkshire Hathaway.
On a yearly basis, Buffett provided performance of his company against a comparative index. Also, he provides the long term performance since inception.
Any investor will be able to gauge the performance of the fund better when it is reported the way Buffett does for Berkshire.

Once again, calvintaneng of Netx fame, is not knowledgeable on all the issues concerning land matters in Nusantera. Someone in this thread and in i3 who was familiar with land matters in Indonesia has already explained this issue a few weeks ago. We thank him for this explanation.
calvintaneng has a recurrent problem. He thinks he is able to predict or forsee events from his simple approach, when in fact, he knows little but talks a lot (verbal or writing diarrhoea). Just look at his posts in promoting Netx. Not only he got it so wrong, he was a liar. Similarly, look at his promotions of stocks when the 2018 Mahathir government realigned the railway project, did he get it right? Also, the BDI spiked up, and he reflexly promoted Maybulk as his next stock that you must all have; quickly he admitted he was wrong (rare occasion). There was a thread where he identified many undervalued stocks that he so cleverly screened out, and these, except one, all got much cheaper. You can still own these cheaper today! Then when the CPO price went up, he promoted plantation stocks when they have already reflected this news. As usual, calvintaneng does not understand valuation and the impression is his promoted stocks will go into stratosphere valuations. He should sometime look at the market capitalization of these stocks, instead of focusing on its per share price. This will anchor him to the ground than allowing his volatile emotions (manic-depressive) cause havor to his personal investments.
To grow wealth long term, you need to compound your wealth. Be wary of calvintaneng who seems to have been compounding his losses so far.
Just my observations.
Don't forget to exercise your votes. You get the government you deserve. Make sure you cast your votes in the coming state elections.

Milk powder price sinks to three-year low as dairy demand wanes
By Tracy Withers / Bloomberg
02 Aug 2023, 06:42 am
main news image
(Aug 2): Whole milk powder auction prices have slumped to a three-year low amid signs that demand for dairy products is waning.
The average price for whole milk powder fell to US$2,864 a ton at the GlobalDairyTrade auction overnight, the lowest since June 2020. The weighted index for whole milk powder dropped 8% from the previous auction, while the index for all dairy products declined 4.3%.
Prices have tumbled almost 40% from a record US$4,757 in March 2022 as a weak Chinese economy damps demand at the same time as producers are boosting output. The decline suggests that New Zealand-based Fonterra Cooperative Group, the world’s largest dairy exporter, will reduce payments to its local suppliers this year.
Last week, Westpac New Zealand senior economist Nathan Penny said the ongoing sluggishness of the Chinese economy meant a downtrend in global dairy prices had been sustained much longer than expected.
Penny cut his projection for Fonterra’s milk price for the current season to NZ$7.80 per kilogram of milksolids from his previous forecast of NZ$8.90.
Fonterra has signaled it will pay NZ$8.20 for the previous season.

Tracking billionaire wealth can provide insight into whtehr an economy is creating the kind of wealth that will help it grow or trigger revolt in the near future. Tracking it by scale, share of inherited wealth, and share of bad billionaires ensures that none of these potential sources of political resntment will be missed.
It is a bad sign if the billionaire class controls too fat a share of national wealth, becomes an entrenched and inbred elite and builds fortunes mainly from politically connected industries.
A healthy economy needs an evolving cast of productive industrialists, not a fixed cast of corrupt tycoons. Creative destruction drives growth in a capitalist society.
Bad billionaires have everything to gain from the stauts quo, they are enemies of wider prosperity and lighning rods for poopulist revolts pushing to redistribute rather than growh the economic pie.
2023-07-26 09:20 | Report Abuse
SSLee, it is a broad overview of how to look at the data of the billionaires created in a country.
2023-07-26 07:55 | Report Abuse
The Good versus Bad Billionaires
Good billionaires emerge outside "rent-seeking industries."
Common rent-seeking industries are construction, real estate, gambling, mining, steel, aluminum, oil, gas and other commodity sectors that mainly involve digging resources out of the ground.
In these businesses, major players often spend their time extracting maximum rents from limited national resources by bribing politicians if necessary, not growing national wealth in innovative ways.
New names on the billionaire list can be a favourable sign. Looking at the scale of billionaire fortunes is not enough to reveal the extent of their political vulnerabilities.
Comparing the share of the wealth generated by "bad billionaires."
To make a qualitative judgement about the sources of great fortunes, compare the total wealth of tycoons in these corruption prone businesses to that of all billionaires in the country.
This no doubt miscasts many honest mining and oil tycoons, but even in nations where these industries are relatively uncorrupt, they tend to make weak contributions to productivity and to tie the economy to the volatile swings of commodity prices.
Good billionaires
This label is for tycoons in industries that are known to make the largest contributions to growth in productivity or that make popular consumer products, like smartphones or cars.
These "good" industries are the ones least likely to generate backlashes against wealth creation; they include technology, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, and telecoms, as well as retail, e-commerce and entertainment.
How are nations generating their wealth?
Analysing billionaires does offer anecdotally telling, real-time evidence of how nations are generating wealth.
Countries with small percentage of bad billionaires
Among the largest developed economies of 2019, bad billionaires controlled the smallest shares of billionaire wealth: in Italy (7%) and France(9%) - a good sign for both countries.
Only 13% of Swedish billionaire wealth originates in rent seeking industries. Much of the rest is created at globally competitive companies, including H&M in fashion and IKEA in furniture retailing.
Countries with large percentage of bad billionaires
Few new or good billionaires are to be found in nations like Turkey or Russia, where aging regimes have turned away from reform and promoted favoured tycoons. The undisputed capital of connected tycoons is Moscow. Nearly 70% of Russian billionaire wealth comes from bad billionaires. The Kremlin treats billionaires with contempt, arbitrarily changing rules that govern their businesses knowing the public has little sympathy for a billionaire class widely perceived as corrupt.
Popular resentment against great wealth is palpable in Mexico as well, where bad billionaires also control close to 70% of billionaire wealth. Mexican tycoons are known for cornering industries such as telephones and concrete, which earn monopoly profits for their owners while driving up prices for consumers.
Bad billionaires typically arise in family empires, particularly in the emerging world, where weaker institutions make it easier for old families to cultivate political connections.

Building castles in the sky.
An architect owns a piece of land. He planned a high rise hotel complex on that building. The plan was widely shared. GDV was impressive. Yes, imagine the profits too! What happened. The project never materialised. The location was wrong. The timing was not right. The development never took off. The land was eventually sold due to financial insolvency. The new owner rented it out to a workshop and has done so the last 20 years.
A listed company owned a prime piece of land in a major town. It proposed a high rise project in the 1990s. GDV in millions. But the market was not able to support this project. Luckily, this was not developed. If they had done so, they would have ended up losing the land and got into deep debt too. Eventually, the land was developed into 3 rows of 4 storey shops. The buyers are all sitting on properties with very poor returns for many years now. Many of the shops remain untenanted for the last decade and half.
Oil palm estates. You either look for income or capital appreciation. It is along haul business. For example, an estate of 10 acres bought for RM500 per acre in 1960s, rose to RM 150,000 in the 1990s, then to RM 1.7 million an acre today. Do you have the patience to hold for this length of time? Those tempted by the capital appreciation and who sold much earlier; are they able to redeploy their capital to get higher gains than if they continued to hold. Of course, many sold because they were not happy with the meagre return relative to the value of their expensive estate.
2023-07-26 07:25 | Report Abuse
Once again, it is so typical of calvintaneng to build castles in the sky. This article serves little guide to the serious investors. It is better to have a bottom up approach than a top down approach to one's investing.
