The unsuccessful dualvlisting project cost the shareholders of iCap a lot of money and distract the managers of iCap from focusing on what is most important: ABSOLUTE YEARLY RETURNS.

What is your investment objective? Maybe grow your wealth 10% or 15% per year
What is your time horizon? Maybe 5 years or 10 years.
What is your risk tolerance? Will you be having sleepness nights when your portfolio drops 10%, 20% or 30% over a short period?


2. Know your investing philosophy

Learn from Buffett

Know the business you wish to invest in for the long term
Business must have durable competitive advantage
Business with honest managers who are capable and hardworking
Of course, buy at a fair or bargain price


3. Know the difference between investing, speculation and gambling.

Please refer to investopedia.


4. Know the games you wish to play in.

Zero sum game: trading, gambling
Negative sum game: trading frequently in stock market, gambling in Genting
Positive sum game: Investing in great companies at fair price for the long term.

It is always preferable to invest in compounders and growth companies than just any bargains or cheap non-quality stocks.



Given a choice:

Choose compounders and growth.

They are always better than lousy companies that are available at low prices.

Those who choose these lousy companies at low price may find many of them not so rewarding.

A few though rewarding, but they will soon realise that this strategy gives limited upsides.

Don't just focus on cheapness.

Always look for great quality growing companies to buy at cheap prices.

Seek out the ones that will give you the 10 baggers in 10 years.

The truth is there are a lot of people who do not know anything about investing. Please take note of this.

In my encounters with many over many years, less than 1% are knowledgeable on investing.

It is common to find many stock market players but a good investor in stock is a rarity.

If you cannot tell me the core story in 2 minutes why this company is or is not a good investment, all the other extra information do not aid my decision making.

To put it simply, intellectual humility means saying
“I’m not sure,”
“The other person could be right,” or even
“I might be wrong.”

I think it’s an essential trait for investors; I know it is in the people I like to associate with.
