I am never a fan of dividend investing. Whatever dividend the company declare, the share price is always going to correct after the ex date. Dividend investing is for the real corporate investor who wants to extract cash out from the entity to pay their dues. Dividend income for a retail investor like you or me, is not the most efficient way of investing. Because the reinvested dividend is going to incur some transactional costs. Having said that, there are of course successful dividend income stories on the bourse, namely; Nestle, BKAWAN, GAB etc. For small cap companies which has a high cash hoard, it is best for them to declare dividend, if not the cash is going to sit there doing nothing till one day the management decides to to do a buy out.

Found this article regarding the tower economics. The author breakdown the cost structure of a tower. Interesting to note that the typical net profit margin of a tower is around 5-8% after accounting for depreciation costs and interests.

Agree with icon sifu. Ekovest play has to be long term. Most of the members here will shoot down Ekovest like our jib kor once it correct > 30%

Icon sifu, I am looking forward to your analysis sharing. I am a small holder of Ekovest, trying to keep the counter long term. I, too, felt that Ekovest profit will not be good until Duke 2 matures.

I am less bullish about the company after doing some research and talking to FMCG people. The suntory deal is about RM 80m per year. Profit contribution from distributing Ribena will not be as big as Redbull. The removal of oil price subsidy is a positive move for YeeLee. But the MD had said the company will reinvest all their cooking oil profits into marketing which means the profit growth will not be that huge. I dont see a rerating coming for this company. Any share price growth has to come from profit growth at this point. Also notice that the NTA is high due to revaluation of properties. So, NTA might kind of be inflated to the best price senario.

Found this Ekovest business presentation dated Oct 2016 by Astramina advisory which advised the company on the EPF deal.
This is a gem of a video featuring Ekovest MD explaining the logic behind their highway and property developments.
After watching this video, I am impressed with Ekovest long term planning. In fact, they came up with the idea of Duke Masterplan as far back as year 1995 and finally bring the idea into fruition 20 years later.
Interestingly, Astramina put the fair value of Ekovest at RM 3.80.
Hope somebody would put up this video on an i3 article. It is too good to be missed.

Small fluctuations like these are of expected. Ekovest share price did not correct like what I had predicted after rate hike. Seems I was wrong. The EPF deal will be closing soon and special dividend coming in 1H 2017. This is a catalyst worth holding for!

Have you accounted for mature trees that require replanting in a few years time? Because if younger trees could grow older, mature trees could die as well. The net effect of the peak production trees could be smaller.

But KC indeed has no business sense. Our beloved kc chong extrapolates past earnings into the future without assessing the industry dynamics. That is not a good investor to me.

As much as I hate to break KC Chong’s rice bowl, I need to respond to all the bad things he said about me especially in his article in i3investor under the title “Another Lesson from Gadang” in which he quoted my opinion as below.
A Super Investor: The super investor will study the case carefully and he sets a realistic target price after taking into consideration of its 40.7 sen EPS, the bonus shares, bonus warrants and its future profit growth in the construction business. Moreover, Gadang was awarded the contract to develop 24.5 acres of Kwasa Land within 20 years. Although property market is currently not so good, Gadang did not pay for the land. Gadang can wait while the land value appreciates. Can you imagine how much the land appreciates in 10 or 20 years?
All regular readers would know that I wrote this as soon as I saw Gadang’s annual profit of 40.7 sen per share.
All regular readers would also know that I openly wrote to advise shareholders to dump their holdings before I started to sell when I saw its 1st quarter EPS of 5sen. Even my wife and relatives scolded me for telling the whole world to sell Gadang before they could sell.
I told them that I can afford to lose some money but not all these small investors. Moreover, my recommendation which was based on its annual EPS of 40.7 sen. might have misled many people and it was only right to tell them to sell first at a better price.
Why KC Chong wants to say bad things about me?
He wants to show that I am not an accountant and investors should follow his teaching. He is selling his teaching FA program as show below his quote:
“For the record, I have been right for every of the stocks mentioned there written 4 years ago.
FA practitioners are not stupid. Financial statement analysis is very useful as it is the language of business, and FA is more intuitive than any “Golden rule”, in my opinion.
That is why I have been advocating FA all the time in a public forum like i3investor. I have been promoting my course in FA in i3investor all the time.
For anyone is convinced and wishing to learn FA in a structured manner to avoid any pitfall in investing, you may contact me at ckc13invest@gmail.com”
As much as I do not wish to break his rice bowl, I must tell you that about 4 years ago, I engaged him to look after my Rm 10 million account with CIMB. I am not sure what was the agreed fees for his work.
He started off by selling all my Latitude Tree and Lii Hen and bought Homeritz. He provided a complete financial analysis of all the furniture companies such as Latitude, Lii Hen, Poh Huat, Hevea and Homeritz.
He considered Homeritz was the best because it had the best return of equity.
As all investors know Latitude went up from Rm 1.00 to above Rm 8.00 within 30 months and Lii Hen went up more than 500% and it is still going up because 100% of its products are exported in US$.
I sacked him because he has no business sense at all. I am not telling you a fairy tale because many people in CIMB know this episode.
My Comment: Kantoi lah kc chong! Now the whole world knows kc chong's beef with Mr Koon. Looks like Mr Koon hurt kc's pride for sacking him as a money manager!

This is actually a good video by CP Teh. Many retailers always curse when their stocks drop 20-30%. But what they forgot was the same stock they bought had gone up more than 100% before they bought.

The export play, in my opinion, has limited upside and plenty of downside. The consensus view now is that RM would weaken with trump presidency. But lets face it. The consensus view is almost always wrong. Assuming RM do indeed go down to RM 5, that is only about a 10% movement. It is a far smaller movement compared to, say, RM 3 to RM 4.4. And also, many traders do not understand that most export companies are manufacturers who do not command high PE. Export companies are no Dutch Lady or Nestle. Even when you put 10x PE, I feel a but too rich as well.

Waiting for post fed rate hike to add. Profit drives fundamental value. If borrowing costs were to go up, Ekovest will be greatly affected as it is in RM 6.2 billion debt on full drawdown. You can calculate how much a 0.5% hike in borrowing costs will affect Kesturi's bottomline. If borrowing costs were to increase greatly, we are seeing a potential company that is burdened by high debt load.
