This good counter no one seems to be interested. Combo of timber AND oil palm, with their palm trees relatively young and in maturing stage. See month-by-month increase of production figures...

Kenanga Research has maintained its “Overweight’ rating on the gaming sector and said the worst is over for the sector after the washed-out 2QCY20 due to lockdowns as business operations have already resumed, albeit earnings recovery is likely to remain patchy for casino operators while number forecast operators (NFO) players have seen their ticket sales at 85% pre-movement control order level.
In a sector update today, the research house said Genting Malaysia Bhd is its “Top Pick” for this space as we believe it is the direct beneficiary of earnings recovery on the back of local tourism as overseas travel is not possible at this juncture and the last time we saw its share price this low was in Feb 2009.
“However, albeit attractive valuation, Genting Bhd’s earnings are likely to be affected by lacklustre prospect of Genting Singapore in the near term.

I don't understand why government don't want allow Toto Magnum and Kuda to do online sales or using app. Transparent, everything can be tracked. And no need people go out queue at the shops.

Just take the dividends now and wait for eventual recovery in late-2021 to 2022. Janji matches or beats FD rate.

"While we like GENM and GENTING as deep value plays, the investment case for them is a normalisation in earnings that will take place more fully in 2022."

E.g. u bought a house a few years ago for RM1.2m
But now its market value has dropped to RM800K (Ouch! Lost RM400K already)
Keep or sell?
The things u need to consider:
A. TO KEEP
1. Do u foresee capital (price) recovery in the future?
2. Can u rent it out for recurring rental income?
B. TO SELL
If u sell it and pocket the RM800K, what are u going to do with the money? Do u have better, more profitable plans than to do A1 and/or A2 above?
In stocks investment, the same principles apply,
2020-09-28 16:22 | Report Abuse
Human mentality - they don't like to be reminded of their blunders and mistakes. If u keep your "losing" stock, every day when u log on to your trading account, u see that RED negative % there. And so u keep trying to find reason or excuse to get rid of it, so that when u log on to your account, all you see are your stock holdings in the black, the profitable ones.
When u make investment decisions, u always do it based on value, FUTURE value.
Your past losses are gone, there is nothing u can do about it.
Current value vs Expected future value
That's all you need to know.

@matrix88 I point out my profession just to emphasise that what I said are finance textbook stuff, not stuff that I pluck out from the sky
And it is applicable for all finance and investing decisions, not just to make u guys remain invested in Genting
Cheers

@ATSK why u getting worked out? I'm not even criticizing u
I'm just using your case to build up my argument of making decision based on past entry cost
2020-09-28 13:31 | Report Abuse
@ATSK in finance, you always decide on your next course of action based on your assessment of the FUTURE.
U bought at RM6+. It's history, it's past, there's nothing u can do about it. U paid RM250K++ in THE PAST - in accounting we call it SUNK COST.
Now the price is RM3.23. If u sell now u get RM135,660.
Now, ask yourself - if u cash out now and take the RM135K, do u have better plans with that money? Any investment idea that u THINK can earn u higher returns than to remain invested in Genting Bhd?
Let's say u found a counter, ABC Berhad, that u think have upside of 10%.
But, Genting now is at RM3.23, do u think it can go up 10% too (i.e. up to RM3.55)? Let's say u actually think that Genting can go up to RM4.00 (that's 24% upside from current price). Then why the hell u wanna cash out and go to ABC Berhad?
The RM6+ cost is PAST, it is IRRELEVANT to your investment decision-making today.
Oh ya FYI I'm a qualified accountant, so I know what I'm talking.

That is why my no. 1 stock selection criterion is always dividend first. My stock must have dividend yield that at least beats FD rates. I can hold, hold until it go up eventually.

REAL stock investors always say, invest only using money that u don't need to use in the next 3-5 years at least.
If u buy now and expect to make money in the next few months, you are a trader.
In my experience, most traders lose to the market.

Aiya if u look closely, Genting has been on downtrend since January 2018 la.
If cannot hold just run to buy those red-hot glove stocks la
At current price the dividend yield is better than FD.
Any capital gains is a bonus
