Share buyback can cut both ways because if the share is perceived to be so good, then market will buy i.e no need to support for company to support with share buyback. I am not sure it's a good sign or not especially since EPF been selling again while company keeps buying back !

PPB share price performance is very much dependent on its Wilmar stake's performance; since Feb13 Wilmar share price has been hammered down very severely to 3.14 (very near its Sep 12 low of 2.99). Although EPF stopped its selling and in fact has been buying a little these few past days, it looks like wayang wayang. Smells fishy here, I am not hopeful PPB can hold for much longer before collapsing back to its Dec12 low of 11.16. Caveat emptor !

Singh, the problem is with Sing ! (pun intended). You know down south they've got this ongoing huge selldown in one of the index stock "OLAM" ? under siege ? Muddy Waters splashed mud and the mud seemed to have stuck ! As a result of this ongoing fiasco, there is fear in the air ...... similarly complicated and related stocks like Wilmar and Noble may be next in line. And PPB depends on Wilmar for a big chunk of their earnings as they own 18% of Wilmar ! So, weakness in Wilmar = weakness in PPB... all this talk of undervalue etc better be tempered with a dose of caution - why rush headlong in when the big fight between Olam/Temasek/Kelveram vs Muddy Waters/Carson Block/shorties is just heating up ? If Olam goes down, Wilmar and Noble might drop drastically in sympathy ! And so will PPB !Caveat Emptor ! If you can, do take a look at charts of Noble, wilmar and Olam and you will understand better, Mr Singh. Cheerio !

@legend623, it's a foregone conclusion that GenM's 2Q will be bad - question is how bad ? For big brother Gent, you can roughly extrapolate from the recently released GenS's 2 Q results. Also, there will be no "extra" dividend payout from the gain from disposal of the 1G power plant. Interim dividend is expected - but will be measly , as usual !

Big bro Genting px surprisingly resilient despite the worse than expected 2Q earning numbers just released by GenS. I thot 8.00 won't hold today but I am wrong, for now ...I would still urge caution - just do your maths and you will see that such a big chunk of Genting's eps (55-57%) is dependent on GenS .... all this optimism a bit premature in my opinion and I'm afraid gonna be erased come Genting's upcoming 2Q results due around 24 Aug ... in fact, it's a foregone conclusion that not only Genting Bhd, but also GentingM will report very weak earnings numbers next week. Casino business worldwide is getting difficult and all are in decline.... is'nt this a cause for concern ? Some here are shouting buy with such wild abandon because it is now "cheap", because it is "very good fundamental blah blah.." - I urge restraint. Last I waited till 10 Aug (for GenS results); now I rather wait till Genting's 2Q's numbers are out before deciding whether to buy or not, if it is still "worth" buying at all then! Cheerios and good luck to all of us who are in now !

I've just read through the entire Circular including the recommendations of the BOD and the IAL from Nomura. As a shareholder, I think this is as good a deal as we can get (1.77x BV) and I honestly can't see anything to indicate that the disposal is not fair and reasonable. As for the pet peeve expressed by some shareholders here that there is no Special Dividend announced "yet" - I feel that we should see things in perspective i.e. that of the RM208.5m in cash, RM 20m (est expenses) + RM180m (repayment of RCF currently RM 247m outstanding on OSK Capital's books with various financial institutions - balance cash left only RM8.5m (see Pg 17 Section 2.5 spell out clearly the rationale/utilisation of the RM 208.5m cash proceeds). How to announce/give "specials" ??? I believe that in due time,..... perhaps after the merger is completed by Dec 2012 (as OLH once mentioned clearly in his interview with Star Newspaper on 16 Jun 2012). Be patient - and have faith. Look at the past dividend record for OSK and judge for yourself -I mean it, go and "dig" it out yourself for every year since FY03 (for further back in time, I no have but you guys can always go and changkol it out youself). OSK has never failed to give us respectable DPS year in year out (even in a "relatively bad" year FY 2004 also got interim 5 sens + final 1 for 45 Treasury Shares !) For roaring good years, we gotten 12.5 sens for FY 06, 20 sens for FY 07 - these were oustanding years ! For the other "average" years (7.5 sens for FY 03; FY 05; FY 08; FY 09 and FY 10. Even the recently concluded "relatively mediocre" FY 11, we still got 4.5 sens + 1 for 40 TS). Also not forgetting, the "extras" (by way of dividend-in-species) we got our OSKVI shares (in May 09)and OSK Property shares (Sep '08) as well as a one-time Bonus Issue shares (1 for 4 in Jan '10). Swee swee right ? I hope this piece of "sell koyoke" by me can somewhat ameliorate the somewhat misplaced feelings of "unfairness" because of no "sweetener" just yet ! I am convinced that we shareholders will be better off with this merger with RHBCap (dun forget OLH owns more than 30++% himself - his interests are inextricably aligned with us !) In short, I say let's not cut our nose to spite our face - vote wisely, vote for the merger....

My concern is that the current sell down of big bro Gent may be just a prelude to an all out sell-down in light of GenS's "widely expected poorer results" to be released this Fri 10 Aug 2012. I still think it takes a lot of courage to say now Gent has hit the floor at this 8.87 level - let's not throw caution to the wind ! Those who have just bot a bit or are in a bit already (and I am one of them), boh pian lah ! - I am staying the course ! So many are saying it is "cheap" now but what if, a big IF - it gets even cheaper and cheaper next Monday onwards when GenS gets another severe bashing by shorties after it's 2Q numbers are out ? Right now, we are all guessing . Who knows ? At best, I say nibble a bit around this level if this is a must buy "floor level" for you! But, for those who are not in yet, why rush in headlong now with GenS results just 2 days away ? In short, "caveat emptor".

scott, if you are a indeed a beginner I would strongly suggest you pay heed to kcloh's advice on ignoring short term market noise and stay the course if you have indeed done your homework b4 taking the plunge to buy a 9.30 stock ! scott, if it is business as usual this year, then the ex-d date is + one mth and payment date is +2mths from the the 2Q announcement date (24 Aug 12). Last year's announcement date was 25 Aug 11 and payment done on 28 Sep 11. btw, just to higlight to you last year's interim dividend was only 3.5 sens LT@25% .... nett a measly 2.625 sens ! Gent not a stock to hope/wish for dividend yield. Mind you, last year's earnings were vg (22.25 sens 1Q and 18.17 sens for the 2 Q)- but the interim dps was still as measly as expected. as I write, 9 lollar also broken with volume .......
