today Genting is friends with gloves. 593 down 327 up, so many blue chips down, but gloves jump up, genting also jump up.
See, Genting and gloves don't have to be enemies, today they are good friends, going hill climbing together!

@virust, the daily cases are definitely still important. For instance, if it drops to 10 daily cases, the war is almost over. ... if it somehow spiked up to 50k daily cases, we're in deep trouble.
I too am hoping/trying to jump queue and get early vaccination... but after the healthcare, yes agreed, they must always be first. ... I'm just trying to jump into the SECOND batch after healthcare lol!
It's not just a matter of "how good"... a lot of people are realizing that vaccine passport is going to give a lot of priveleges. Like, TRAVELLING. ... I'm actually happy about the ministers getting jabs ASAP, because those guys basically don't care about travel restrictions and travel interstate or even overseas, all the time. ... if they're going to travel so much, please just jab them so they don't catch covid and spread it here...

yeah, leaving interstate aside, daily cases are falling lower and lower. That's definitely good news!
Yeah don't worry too much whether interstate opens or not... when daily cases drop to 3 digit, then drop to 2 digit, 1 digit, 0... that's when it's party time!

@newbie2019, ah bad luck on that. Yeah, 3182 will go back above 7.37, but it's a matter of WHEN.
If it can go back to 7.37 before end of April, my C94 will be above RM1.40 lol... and since my cost is 8.5c, that'd be 1600% return. Hilarious!
... I don't think it can rise up that fast though... very very unlikely... will get there eventually but only after my poor c94 expires... oh well...

Well, if you want to buy Genting short term, I suggest you buy in at below RM4 (if it somehow drops back that low)
For medium term, below RM4.50, I guess? Depends what you mean by medium term.
For long term, if you have holding power for the next couple of years, you could probably just buy it right now while it's below RM5... but you might profit a bit more if you buy it on a dip. Trouble is whether there will be any significant dip, and how low the dip would be.
All in all, I don't have a crystal ball to predict the short term price fluctuations, so quite hard to give a good entry price man! Sorry!
All I can say is "IF" it goes back under RM4, whack kaw kaw.
And once pandemic is over and recovery is well underway, Genting is going back to RM7 and above, easily... RM10 wouldn't be too hard, depending on how it's overseas ventures play out. (the alzheimer's medication, red indian casino, yohohama, local theme park). But those operations aren't set in stone yet... quite likely, but eh, things can change suddenly.
2021-03-01 15:23 | Report Abuse
@stockisnotfun. Did you buy mother or warrants? Which warrant?
For those worrying about vaccination side effects... yeah MOH is being careful about that as well. It's not like the typical flu vaccines where you get your jab then the doctor asks you to pay and say goodbye... They're actually responsible and say, after you get jabbed, sit down, take a rest, make sure you have no side effects, and doctors and nurses are waiting just in case you do have any side effects.
At this point, literally MILLIONS of people have gotten their vaccination jabs (depending which vaccine). Whenever anyone has allergic reaction or side effects or whatever, it is properly documented and not covered up like conspiracy claim. THAT is why they instituted the ruling that those who are prone to severe allergies should not take it, because they are properly documentating everything and they had a few cases where those with allergies had allergy attacks.
Nothing is risk free, BUT, at this point, the risks associated with the covid vaccine are far lower than the risks of getting in a traffic accident. Got it? Getting in your car to take a drive is higher risk.

@stocksafeplayer. TP3.0 is still more than double what it was pre-pandemic.
@Zuliana: Contained in 1-2 years? ... erm... no. Also, are you in Team A or Team B lol.
Here's the more likely situation for covid:
1. Many rich nations will be fully vaccinated within 2021 itself. America, UK, and so forth are likely to achieve herd immunity by the middle of 2021. The poorer nations will lag behind, BUT, here's the harsh truth: if the rich nations recover, the global economy will recover. Those poor starving nations, are a LOT less relevant.
2. International travel will require vaccine passports. So... once you get countries that are green zone, they will find it much easier to STAY green, unlike the situation where you get import cases all over the place.
3. As noted, even without vaccinations, covid numbers are dropping. We seem to be entering the "natural" part of the cycle where a pandemic just dies out on it's own.
...
all in all, I foresee that covid is pretty much contained within 2021, with developed nations turning into green zones, and with poorer nations being "contained" in the sense that they can't export covid cases due to the vaccine passport requirement on international travel.

@sharefisher, you are right, I talk too long winded.
Actually, Genting very very easy to summarise:
-> Genting Berhad is one of the most attractive recovery stocks on Bursa. If we recover from the pandemic, genting will fly back to around pre-pandemic levels.
If you think that we will never recover from pandemic, then Genting would drop to RM2 as it would lose all of it's gaming operations and just rely on it's diversification into health, plantations, power, etc.
So it's all up to whether you believe that pandemic will last forever or not... hahaha...

Indeed... this is in fact EXACTLY what Las Vegas needs, not just RWLV.
As sharewiz said, 136 legal casinos. And many of them are HUGE. The competition for gaming revenues is far too cutthroat.
... what needs to be done in LV, is exactly that... growing the non-gaming portion of the local economy. It's a solid strategy for RWLV, and it helps the local economy too. Brilliant.

It looks like the Indian Astrologers are right about the February March crash... for healthcare stocks which were pandemic fueled anyway. @ATK, keep in mind that I don't have direct access to your hockeystick company! ... if I did, I might follow you and use my bullets for that company instead. (BTW, I pmed you asking you about that company)
Since I don't though... I'm pretty happy with my entry price of RM4.03 and below for genting mother, and I'm happy being a medium/ long term investor, so no worries there.
As for my warrants, yeah, I admit that the maturity date on those is a bit worrisome, but my average price for C91 is 12c, which means that my breakeven at expiry would be RM4.42... which I feel seems safe enough for end of June.
ATK has a point about Genting being risky in the near term, for sure. I wouldn't say it's guaranteed downtrend (ATK was wrong when I said BUY BUY BUY when it dipped below RM4), but there's definitely downside potential at this level for the short term. ... it's also possible that we will see strong upside and that I will not be able to buy back at this price level. ... Just like how ATK sold at RM4.40, and told us he was going to wait for even lower when it was RM3.90, and he would only buy in on strong uptrend, and now Genting is RM4.61, higher than what he sold it at. ... I also notice ATK has not been talking much about his Indian Astrologers lately.
All in all though, ATK does have some good points. He's not a glove fly just making noise. And he was perfectly willing to admit that he was wrong about not buying in at RM3.90 rebound. So, yeah, I welcome his POV here. He's one of those guys I often disagree with his opinion, but he does so in a useful and constructive way, unlike those glove flies.
Thanks, ATK.
Also, please go buy in your final purchase into your hockeystick company, and then share it with us lol. ... Actually, just share it with MEEEEEE, in PM, lol!!!

Fortunatly, Genting is bidding for Yokohama! ... Not all casinos in Japan are created equal:
"one of the biggest issues with the Japan process is that Japanese authorities have not made any regulatory distinction between metropolitan and regional IRs, yet the local population bases are vastly different. The Tokyo metro region is the world’s biggest metropolitan agglomeration, with 38 million people. But regional locations Nagasaki and Wakayama, with local populations of less than half a million, have exactly the same IR requirements. This false equivalency does not make commercial sense."
2021-02-28 19:21 | Report Abuse
ATK has some fair points though:
1. Firstly, Las Vegas, IMHO, I agree with ATK, LV was a bad idea for Genting, and I'm glad they are selling. I've been there as a child and I went there again some years ago. ... It's completely different, WAY too overbuilt now. The number of visitors more than tripled... but the number of casinos and the amount spent to make absolutely luxurious casinos probably increased 10x or more. It's WAY too overbuilt now and if someone offered me a Vegas casino license I would turn around and sell it to someone else for whatever I could get for it.
To put into perspective, Las Vegas is a town in the middle of a desert in the middle of nowhere, where all the money comes from visitors. It's like, for Genting Highlands, if they lost their monopoly and someone built another 8 multi-billion dollar casinos right next to it. it should have been obvious that demand could not support that much supply... The hope is that your casino steals all the punters from all your competitors.
...
HOWEVER, this is not going to be true for Genting's OTHER American Casinos.
2. "The Malaysian casino operator has proposed to run a US$1-billion casino (pictured in an artist’s rendering) on land belonging to the native American tribe in the state of Massachusetts.
Nomura had said in previous commentary that Genting Malaysia was to manage the casino for at least seven years from the opening of the property. The casino operator had stated that while it had no equity interest in the project, it had invested in interest-bearing promissory notes issued by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Gaming Authority for the initial development phase of the casino resort.
Nomura’s Tuesday note on the latest federal government announcement stated: “This lowers the probability of the tribe successfully developing a casino, and is negative for Genting Malaysia, which has invested about US$400 million cumulatively in the tribe’s promissory notes.”
So... firstly, if that goes through now, USD400m of bad debts could be added back, not sure how their accountants made provisions.
Secondly, 7 year agreement to manage the casino.
"Massachusetts has three full-service casinos – one just north of Boston, a second south of Boston, and a third in western city of Springfield. All three offer extensive slots and table games, and the Plainridge Park casino, south of Boston, offers live harness racing from April to October."
Seems reasonable that the risk reward ratio here is GOOD. No matter if the casino is super profitable or not, Genting makes money off the promisory notes and the management, without direct equity investment.
...
3. New York Casino: -> Personally, I don't think it's going to happen, the full casino license thing, but IF it does, hoo boy that's going to be lucrative. ...
Resorts World Casino New York City (RWNYC) is the only casino in New York City, offering over 6,000 slots and electronic table games to 10 million guests annually.
2023 Casino Expansion
In two years, the moratorium on downstate full-scale casinos will be lifted. New York’s commercial gaming law, passed in 2013, authorized four upstate commercial casino locations. The moratorium was designed to give those more remote venues adequate time to build their customer bases without downstate competition.
However, come 2023, New York can authorize as many as three full-scale casinos downstate. With Resorts World and Empire City expected to receive two of the permits, one will remain.
... so, it's NOT going to be a monopoly (too bad), but, looking at the population and amount of wealth in New York City, compared to the (maximum) number of casinos allowed? The new york operations will be a success, and are IMHO 100x better than the las vegas operations.
Again, to put things into perspective: Las Vegas the casino scene is like if Genting Highlands had more than a dozen multi billion dollar casinos built next to it. ... and at least Genting Highlands is a popular tourist destination even without the casinos. Vegas, without the casinos, is a complete waste of space.
Whereas the New York operations, that's the equivalent of several Genting level casinos being built within Klang Valley. Or several casinos built in KL city itself.
THERE IS NO COMPARISON. New York operations are just going to outperform Vegas by a mile.
...
4. I agree with LTK about Japan casinos. As far as Genting Yokohama anyway. Yokohama has a population of 3.7m people, and it's pretty bustling. The USD10b price tag is a little daunting though, but Japanese interest rates are near non existant, so I don't see it hard for the profits to be higher than financing costs.
More importantly, it's ONE Casino per area, which basically means monopoly power. Casino monopoly in a metropolitan is easy money.

@stocksafeplayer. Eh, then you can't buy into most of bursa... because most Bursa companies invest in Malaysia, and Malaysia is currently BBB+, AFAIK...
Sometimes those ratings are not a good gauge... ;)
But, yeah, agree with you in general! ... like, the reason I don't want to invest in Nagacorp is because they are investing heavily in casinos in RUSSIA, which has some notoriety for loan defaults, and, well, some dodgy business practices in general!
I hate Indonesian investments too... so much dodgy politics there too!

To expound further:
Interstate ban is "maybe-maybe not"... personally, I do think that there should be SOME restrictions to interstate travel until the pandemic is "under control". Whether this would involve 70% vaccination or lower numbers, or some combination of the two, is beyond my scope of analysis.
As I said however... even IF there is a prolonged interstate travel ban, vaccination pass will almost certainly include travel permissions. ... Not just for Malaysia, but for ALL countries worldwide. It is ALREADY happening. ... it's pretty much a no-brainer, really, and it'd be more shocking if vaccine pass did NOT grant travel permission along with various other priveleges like public gatherings and such.
... I need to check how much of Genting Berhad's revenue comes from the malaysian casino, and how much comes from other sources, actually. ... it'd be hilarious, if, for once, Genting Berhad's earnings were pulled down by genting highlands operations, but fortunatly the other areas like foreign casino and power and plantation kept it in the black...

@ATK, I have to agree about the slow roll-out fears.
Singapore is taking their sweet time with it because their daily cases are so low, I guess?
But I hope Malaysia hurries it up. Like, A LOT faster.
70% herd immunity will take a LONG time more, I'm sure.
However, it is not necessarily the case that we need 70% herd immunity to get Covid under control. Our average daily cases are falling, and in fact worldwide daily cases have been falling even before the vaccinations gained momentum. It might be just be the natural cycle of all pandemics, where cases flare up and then drop eventually. Remember, we didn't need vaccinations at all for H1N1, SARS, etc, those just naturally faded away.
As for our interstate ban, I'm on DG's side on this, but a lot of people are on the side of the economy for this. For the short term, it's a tough choice.
For the medium term, vaccine passports are almost certain to happen. As I said, that's the plan for international travel for nations across the world, and that's the most likely choice that will be made for interstate travel in Malaysia. ... medium term, because we will only have enough vaccines on hand for this in the medium term. Short term, major shortage, so, yeah, problem.
Long term, we probably won't need 70% herd immunity. With falling cases (touch wood and pray cases continue to fall!!!), if we can get daily cases back below 100, I do foresee interstate opening up to everyone. ... forget about Genting and investments, let's all pray for cases to drop below 100, just as caring human beings, ok?
And eventually drop to 0 cases. That would be great, and would probably require near 100% vaccinations.
2021-02-27 11:22 | Report Abuse
I probably own more Genting and genting warrants than anyone else on this board, but I have to say: I don't want interstate travel opened up "too early".
I love making money just as much as all of you do, but, not at the cost of jeopardizing the war against covid.
In the medium-long term, a good clean sweep of covid and getting numbers down below 100 daily cases is going to be best for both the country, the economy, and the investors.
...
Government will need to add people who travel a lot, people who have a lot of close contact with multiple people, all these groups should be given vaccine priority as well. in that sense, vaccinating the politicians ASAP is a good move, because those guys travel so much and meet up with so many different people. Best to just reduce the risk of them becoming cluster spreaders.
2021-02-26 23:42 | Report Abuse
AAAH!!!!
I was too slow in typing and @goldgent posted before i did!!! ... sigh... not so smart after all.
Anyhow, agree with goldgent. Just want to add that, they have already confirmed that there will be SOME form of vaccination passport, I recall a vaccination card being mentioned, mysejahtera is also a maybe. But ALL countries around the world are going to be using a "proof of vaccination" system, that's pretty much confirmed.
And, of course, it's only logical that those who have the vaccine card will be allowed to do stuff like, OVERSEAS travel (this has already been confirmed by many nations), so yeah, you can also bet that INTERSTATE travel will also be allowed if you have your vaccine card.
The question here then becomes: When will the Genting customers get their vaccination cards?
This last part actually annoys me though, because vaccine allocation SHOULD go based on the most efficient way to deal with the pandemic, but what is likely to happen is that people with money will get it faster. Sigh.
2021-02-26 23:32 | Report Abuse
IMHO, what is the most likely outcome is: Vaccine Passports (which have been confirmed BTW) will give permission for interstate travel.
I mean, duh, vaccine card will give certain perks and permissions, and among those, interstate travel is practically a sure thing.
Now that Pharmaniaga has said that 2m doses of sinovac vaccine go to private and 12m go to government stock, it's even more certain that the rich and powerful are going to cut queue and get early vaccinations.
Thus... those high rollers will be vaccinated soon, and will be able to go to Genting and have the place to themselves.
If you look at my message history, I already said that once before, and I'm saying it again now. ;)
BTW, It won't just be interstate travel. WORLDWIDE, travel restrictions and various other restrictions will be in place for those who aren't vaccinated.
However, as I said, the rich and powerful will get their vaccination passports pretty soon... and then they will be able to go wherever they choose. ... for example, to Genting! ;)
Well, anyhow, not making a buy or sell call here... rather, to tell you the truth, I made quite a lot of money already, so what I want now is to have my ego stroked. (ROFL!!!). Was pretty happy when my call that Genting might have scraped a profit this quarter came true, so now I'm making another prediction, for the purpose of showing off how smart I am! (hahaha!)
Prediction: The rich guys will get their vaccination cards SOON, way before that 70% herd immunity threshold. And when they do, you will see the high rollers start to return to Genting. ... It won't be anywhere close to pre-pandemic levels of revenue, BUT, it will be a significant amount of revenue, perhaps enough to scrape a profit.
...
Oh, but having said that, Q1 2021 is going to be ugly red, because MCO totally wiped Genting for the most of Q1 already, and the vaccines won't be in time to save Q1 at all. For Malaysia anyway. Maybe the overseas sides can lower the losses a bit, but it's probably going to be bad.
Q2 of 2021 should be MUCH better than Q1. I think Q2 2021 has a decent chance of showing a bit of profit again.
I'm also guessing that they will authorize vaccinations for those under 18 within the upcoming months, and that will be a nice boost. Since the theme park is going to have a major problem if kids are not vaccinated. Theme park without kids, doesn't work...
