I did my correspondence course in ACCA while working for an accounting firm and was able to build a career for myself after so many years of struggle.

The one thing a government coalition ought to project is inner unity. Even if it is not the case, a country needs to be able to look at its leaders and see a united front fighting for their best interests. But when it comes to Pakatan Harapan, this is far from the case.

Our new government has already disappointed their people with their race politicking, their inability to curb economic stagnation, and their failure to stick to their promises. The least they could do is give us hope that they are working together for a better future.(Adam Tan)

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. Harapan won because of the massive Chinese, Indian, as well as 30 percent of Malay votes. All Harapan had to do is to make sure this percentage is taken care of and work on the B40 which forms the big bottom of the demographic pyramid (esp those in Sabah and Sarawak). This will help to bring in the extra 20 percent bumi votes for an easy win in the 15th general election.

The struggles of those who had flown back just to make that change in GE14 were fast forgotten. Many work tirelessly on the ground. Thousands of others tried to gather as much support as they can through the alternate media, relatives, and friends. This was all done because of the love for the nation that they called home. The new government must show that this nation really belongs to all Malaysians and not to the selected few who make up only the top of the pyramid (T20). Sooner or later, people will realise who can really take care of their basic needs in the long run. They will be grateful and support the party that really paid attention to them.

Some are still basking in the aftermath glory of the general election. Many are now disappointed and disillusioned with their empty promises. Racial and religious issues are the order of the day. The economy is in a tailspin. Income is low, while taxes and cost of living high. Insane and stupid policies are being churned out every day, and all this while, the people grouse and suffer. They are not delivering or seen to be delivering. There is no ‘Baru’. It is merely an extension of ‘Lama’; maybe even worse. The ‘M’ film should stand for ‘Malu’ instead.

Msia is ailing. Look at the body. It is not coordinating. In the land of abundance, people are suffering. Diagnosis is diabetes. The bogus doctor in the house does not know his job. He brings in bomoh from India, thinking that prayers will solve the illness. Just examine the tissues (90 percent of civil servants) they are not healthy. He keeps a teacher to teach how to write worthless essays while being inspired by the bomoh. So where is it heading - of course, death bed. And now in such a critically ill condition- nothing to be proud of. Some pseudo experts (the good ones who are not recognized) claim there is no other way but must continue the traditional treatment. Going with the wrong prescription for rest of the days of terminal care seems to be the chosen course to take until death arrives. The wise ones know what to do but are either being sidelined or ignored. M is hence for malfunctioning.(Alfanso)

We are caught in a "Catch 22" situation. There is much to be done to improve the investment climate and to create employment. Unfortunately, the current turbulence in our politics distracts our leaders and diverts energy and resources from more productive activity. Instability, or the perception thereof, discourages investment. A troubled economy is also a feeding ground for extremists. We need visionary leaders to restore calm to our troubled waters. Some of our leaders served in the previous government whose policies and actions have brought the nation to this sad situation. Can they now transcend the politics of race and religion and work towards a vision that includes and benefits all? Can they convince the people of this country that only a united nation will succeed and that a divided nation will almost certainly fail? Can they move away from race-based parties, race-based politics and race-based policies? Can our leaders be leaders for all races and not just the community they come from? Is it possible for people of different races, religions and cultures to live together in peace and harmony?

This is a beautiful country. In terms of resources, it’s one of the richest, in the whole region, But corruption has not allowed it to achieve the level it should have achieved in the last 20 years. It has pushed it back. The progress and development has really been dwarfed. It has not achieved that level of success which it should have achieved, and I feel personally, part of the responsibility or the majority [factors] has played a role for this corruption also. If the society was freed from corruption, I think this would have been the most prosperous nation”

There is a picture in most legal firms that show two farmers fighting over a cow. Both declare that it is their property while the lawyer sits in between and milk it to his benefit.

The education department also shows the same picture of two individuals pulling at each end. They are exactly milking the system. The religious zealots on one end and the politicians on the other. In the middle are the poor SRK students paying the price.

Take these two equations out of the picture first and then implement a system that can be good for the students.

Ironically, those who insult other races, cause strife and disharmony, have never been considered the culprits of disunity. Neither are the puppeteers behind these aggressors. It is those stupid enough to point out the obvious, who demand equal treatment, who are blamed for causing disunity. Asking for equality is considered a great insult to the spoilt race.

THE SKY IS EMPTY (FLAG FREE)

Last year, about three months after that fateful date May 9, a day I now regard as accursed, I went out and bought a national flag for the first time in my life.

I then flew that flag on a tall pole fixed to my gate’s pillar, just like many of my neighbours. The flag flying high was a sight that touched me with various arousing emotions - elation, hope, pride - and at the glorious change heading our way.

The surprise today is not that these beliefs of optimism seem to have disappeared but the speed at which our prime minister achieved this collapse. After all of his pious preaching and promises, we never reckoned with what really lay beneath his visage of benevolence.

He led us away from Umno and in its place, he installed Bersatu. People like Syed Sadiq Syed Abdul Rahman don’t really matter as he is a little boy who believes he has grown up and matured just because he prowls with more seasoned and cunning politicians.

And this year? My flag lies forsaken and hidden somewhere in my storeroom. After all that Mahathir and Bersatu wreaked on us, I will not be flying that flag. The sky in my neighbourhood looks so empty. (Voter 34)

Is it part of the politico-bureaucratic syndrome that suggests that public money is yours to dispose of as you see fit? Whatever the reason hand outs offer no benefit to Malaysians. And they are certainly no alternative to education. Part of the breakfast package is education on nutrition. Nutrition taught to children is a waste of time, unless you want to wait a generation to see the results. The target for education should be the parents. Both in terms of nutritional know-how and responsibility. If negligent parents can’t step up to the line, then community self-help (government sponsored) should be the next line of attack. But parents should never be encouraged to “pass the buck” for their own responsibilities off to the government. Don't they grow mature enough physiologically, physically and mentally to prepare amd set aside money for upbringing of their children? Premarital courses never enlighten them on this? That sounds like the beginning of communism.(Voter 36)

When the aura of love is replaced by imaginary fears....

The leaders of Pakatan Harapan were driven by love prior to GE14.They used to love the rakyat, people of all races and colour, creeds and background, and they used to preach a more inclusive and harmonious Malaysia. Now that they’re in power, they are no longer driven by love. They are driven by fear. They fear to lose the power they have more than anything in the world. Perpetual injustice in schools

The educational quality of our national schools has greatly declined over the last three decades primarily due to the lack of competent teachers and effective school leaders.
