when Charlie wants to take over a company, surely he has a valuation in mind....why? because they have dozens of companies with controlling stakes. They can do stuffs with the companies they bought.
when KC talks about valuations...what can you do with the company shares you bought? Nothing....just waiting passively for your dividends and for the price to go up.....both of which are out side your control.
Both you and Charlie are talking about different things, from different perspectives.
From your perspective, it would be more fruitful not to have any dogmatic notions of valuations.
Posted by stockmanmy > Apr 7, 2017 09:41 PM | Report Abuse kc can get dozens of casino licences at net tangible value cheap enough or not?
ME: LONDON BISCUITS HAS A NET TANGIBLE ASSET OF ABOUT rm2.00, CHEAP OR NOT? SEE WHAT PRICE IS IT TRADING?
that should be more objective than what is your valuation on XYZ compared to my valuation on XYZ.
ME:OBJECTIVE? OBJECTIVE BASED ON WHAT? DYNAMITES?
Value investors should not recommend Ace counters and Fibon which has a $ 1 m turnover a month. Value investors are supposed to be prudent, conservative and risk adverse.
FIBON SHARE PRICE ROSE 159% SINCE I SHARED IT IN I3INVESTOR WHEREAS GENTING GONE UP ONLY 20%.
NO SUPER INVESTORS, I MEAN TRULY SUPER INVESTOR, TALK ABOUT MARKET CAP TO DETERMINE IF IT IS UNDERVALUED. THEY TALK ABOUT PRICE VERSUS VALUE.
GIVE YOU ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF A STOCK IN ACE MARKET IN MY PORTFOLO, SALUTE. ITS SHARE PRICE ROSE 40% SINCE 1 JAN 2017 FROM RM1.10 TO RM1.76 NOW.
ANOTHER ONE IN MY PORTFOLIO, MMSV ROSE ALMOST 100% FROM 53.5 SEN FROM 1ST JANUARY TO RM1.03 NOW.
SO, WHAT WAS YOUR RETURN FROM GENTING DURING THE SAME PERIOD.
IF THIS IS NOT THE OUTCOME OF VALUE INVESTING, WHAT IS IT? DYNAMITE INVESTING?
the right question to ask when buying shares is.....what is the business trend for the next ...(xyz ) periods you want. what is the history of the shares and the fundamentals.
it is a wrong question to ask...what is my 30% margin of safety? what is the true valuation or what is the target price are also wrong questions.
these are no good answers to such questions.
As KYY puts it......the most pertinent question would be.....would the EPS go up or not?

Haven't got enough?
Look at another ACE counter, Willow. its share price has risen 35% from 75.5 sen on 1st January to RM1.02 now. It is in my 1st August 2013 portfolio, Table 2 here,

So tell us your success story.
So did you ask the question if the EPS going up or not a few years ago on XingGuan, Mudajaya and Jayatiasa?
The best is 30% margin of safety with good growth prospect intact. Otherwise put FD patiently wait also good for retailers, since they can wait unlike institutions. The worst thing is those who pay huge premium without any margin of safety, just because they do not have patience to wait and collect at low price.

and in fact the biggest handicap for retail investors is the 30% margin of safety........left got devil, right got ghost, ask them to put in FD la.
popo92 > Apr 7, 2017 11:44 AM | Report Abuse
In fact, the biggest advantage for retailers over big players institution is choosing small cap stocks.
Posted by stockmanmy > Apr 7, 2017 10:37 PM | Report Abuse I call myself Dynamic Investor, but I don't investigate Ace counters......funny or not?
Not funny at all. It is expected because you know nothing about value investing.
Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. My biggest gain this year is another ACE company, or once an ACE company, JHM. This was one of the biggest weightage in my portfolios until yesterday.
Its share price gone up by 156% since beginning of this year.
Yeah, it is not funny for you who use dynamite investing and buy UMWOG and CSC Steel at RM230+, "sailang" at this price and still claimed making money.
That is the huge difference between a value investor and a dynamite investor. Got it?
aiseh, not willow green, it is willowglen, already from ace to main board ler, MSC ler, MSC status is a jewel ler somemore got win TNB project one ler..
Posted by stockmanmy > Apr 7, 2017 10:51 PM | Report Abuse I am not a gambler like you....I am a Dynamic Investor....almost all my shares are industry leaders...CSC...I bought $ 1.70./1.80 sold around $ 2.25
So, you were promoting CSC Steel furiously at RM2.30+, but sold at RM2.25? Is that your normal modus operandi.
You may have a quarrel with raider, but Jon Choivo, is a credible witness as I can see from his other comments.
Posted by stockraider > Mar 30, 2017 11:29 AM | Report Abuse Yes...mammy did promote CSC at Rm 2.30....citing game changer...this & that loh.....!! Now price come down alot already....sing a different tone loh....!! Raider always says csc and choobee are brothers.....in steel ind...not csc game changer as claimed by kyy and his side kick mammy loh...!!
Posted by Jon Choivo > Apr 5, 2017 03:19 PM | Report Abuse Stockmanmy, yes you did. I distinctly remember reading it, you can delete your post, but doesnt mean its not true.
Your image is an academician, a value investor in the mould of Warren Buffet. A WB wannabe. But, you look down VS , an industry leader and go dabbling in the Ace Market ( by definition, these are companies without a track record) and tiny companies ....By definition Value investors are prudent investors, conservative, risk averse investor....but in real life you are a gambler in funny shares.
No wonder you cannot get along with KYY. I also cannot tolerate an adviser like that.
Just like KYY, I normally only do shares of industry leaders, of normal companies,. I don't even investigate or trust IT or ACE shares much.,,perhaps influenced by Warren Buffets and my own career. I am not an IT man.
Definitely manipulation by mammy loh.....!! After CSC sold its treasury share....mammy still argue with raider strongly for more than 1 wk, citing that csc is a gamechanger and a great investment....loh...!!
But behind everybody back....he was unloading csc quietly...!! He sing positive tune....but actually selling mah...!!
Don't matter if the cat is brown or yellow as long as it catches the mouse. In this case KC got the cash and the record to back his knowledge in this two horse race.
The only IT share I have done this year is GHL....a share well promoted by brokers ...the only IT company I have respect.
I bought around $ 1.20 only to see it collapse immediately but I thought it was a good deal with an even bigger fund manager so I bought more $ 1.04 to see it go limit up immediately. Funny share. Sold next morning at a low of $ 1.62 only to see it reach $ 1.87 within an hour.....real funny share. hahaha.
Well, at least we share the same stock picking focus and strategy and I really wanted to know how he can sailang so much.? sailang is not easy , you know. ? who dares to sailang so much, so focused? But, if you don't sailang ,how to be so rich?
I wanted to find out every thing I can find out.

I,with many years experience, can judge a person very well. I don't simply worship anybody just because he is rich.
you remember when I first come to this forum, I only wanted to talk about diversification and diversification as the only free lunch in town.
now, I try as much as possible to sailang...but not easy. There is this survival factor, the fear factor. Fear is difficult to over come.
I try to....get more courage to sailang when opportunities come.
It works wonders......
For KYY, it is naturally easier because that is what he do all his life...and he only need to average up...keep on averaging up. Keep on averaging up, margin account keep on expanding. Very enjoyable game for him.
stockmanmy gambling in Ace market...if that is not Dynamic investing that what is it? funny.....I have no idea what is Salutica, Willow green, MMSV..... I never investigate Ace counters
Soon Uncle Soon u will know about MMSV kekekekekekeke

ME: Wow, the evolution of a super investor! When are you going to write a book on book on that?
Posted by stockmanmy > Apr 8, 2017 01:10 AM | Report Abuse
IT shares and ACE market shares are by definition Growth Investing...you are investing for growth.
ME: WHOSE DEFINITION IS THAT, THE SUPER INVESTOR STOCKMANNY? I MEAN MANY PEOPLE DEFINE IT DIFFERENTLY, BUT I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS DEFINITION.
Different skill sets, different mentality from Value Investors.....
So, I imagine you are a Value Investor because you said so yourself.
ME: YOU JUST DON'T GET IT BUT JUST SIMPLY BARK. THIS IS WHAT I TALK ABOUT VALUE INVESTING. FOR HEAVEN SAKE, READ IT AGAIN AND AGAIN AND TRY, AT LEAST TRY TO LEARN SOMETHING.
When image and reality don't match, that is when I say you are a fraud.
ME: WHAT IS A FRAUD? TO ME ONE WHO CLAIMS HE IS A CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT BUT KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT INVESTING, CARE NOTHING ABOUT THE LANGUAGE OF A BUSINESS WHEN INVESTING, NOTHING ABOUT FIGURES AND NUMBERS, BUT KEEPS ON SCORNING OTHERS, IS A CLEAR FRAUD.
Ha,ha,ha,... Ain't investing that i see, neither much value... Bull market, so goreng, goreng,goreng,.. No need to have any animosity... Just make sure ain't burnt.
not only KYY, any business tycoon will get upset if you use his money to play play Ace market. I, of course, will sack you immediately if I found out that is what you do with my money.
Ace market got no respectability. It is the seedy joint of the KLSE where respectable people do not want to be seen hanging out in. Of course for venture capitalists, it is a different breed...and must be explicit about it.....One don't pretend to be Value investor and then put money in Ace shares......That, to me is fraud.
If he can give you money to invest, gains and losses is not every thing. Gains and losses can be understood in the bigger picture of things. The feel good factor must be there. I don't feel good if I give my money to a stranger only for him to put into Ace shares....
That is a No No.
Risks and returns are related....
Even if you tell me, you make money , so what? Making more money is simply a function that Ace market is riskier.
An Ace and warrant gambler pretending he is Value Investor...No wonder KYY sacks you. I too would do the same.
I think Genting should be bought and kept for as long as one is happy with it. It should be bought because it has earnings from all over the world, trading at NTA meaning its dozens of casino licences come FOC, good earnings and still room for growth eg Japan, Korea.
Since there is no intention to sell, there is no need to do any valuation. That should be the correct attitude for Genting shareholders.
