Khazanah belongs to all Malaysian while EPF (indirectly) own by contributors that are mainly Malaysian.
Not all Malaysian use the tolled highway.
By removing toll (or lowered) without compensation, will be most unfair to the Malaysian (especially contributor to epf) that do not use the toll highway while they had contributed to the acquiring cost.
There are 32 millions Malaysian (latest data released not too long ago) and I believe at most half, 16 millions use the tolled highways. Is it fair to the remaining 16 millions? One can change the number as much as one likes, but you cannot escape the fact that there is a whole chunk of Malaysian given the short end of the deal.
Where is the justice to this?
And all of these highways are in the West coast where Malaysian have the highest income, can afford, user pay, so pay, please.
@Superhome, your suggestion is good but not practical, Gov need to pay Gamuda to stop them increase Fees, so you are suggesting Gov need to pay Gamuda to improve the highway....insane, how much compensation has Gov pay to Gamuda so far, how Gamuda use those money, pay dividend, pay bonus, what else?
Should lower the rate instead of toll free. It cab be done by lower their maintenance cost and Gov should review and check their maintenance charges...
don't force on something not feasible. the maintenance costs will be the next headache to think of after taking over the tolled roads. without any revenue generation from tolls, government have to think of a way to collect the lost revenue to maintain the roads.
in order to fulfill the manifesto, abolish the tolls, but increase the road taxes to the business / industry vehicles to recover the loss of revenue for maintenance & compensation.
Janji ditepati , abolish tolls but they never promise not to increase other taxes mah.
While taiwan is enjoying toll free highways & no one complain about it, now some many orang otak kecil complain it is not workable or unfair to the people if the tolls are removed.
if you guys have better insights, you are already part of the eminent team. Here you are questioning their actions whereas no decision has been announced at all..
