Maybank shooting up, CIMB stuck in the mud, we are all paying a very heavy price for the Directors employing Pumpkins to run the Banks Due D departments.

Bank Negara Malaysia's (BNM) decision to cut the overnight policy rate (OPR) by 25 basis points (bps) to 1.75% today is driven by global economic conditions that are in the early stages of recovery, said Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz.

The decision to reduce the OPR is aimed at accelerating the rate of recovery and further stimulating the country's economy. The government believes that this move, combined with proactive measures deployed since March 2020 under the PRIHATIN and PRIHATIN SME+ economic stimulus packages, and more recently the National Economic Recovery Plan (PENJANA), will be able to regenerate the economy by creating jobs, restoring consumer and investor confidence, as well as containing the likelihood of a sharp economic contraction

the stimulus packages, which totalled RM295 billion, have benefitted around 800,000 businesses and saved an estimated 2.6 million jobs. "The coming three to six months are crucial to the successful implementation of PENJANA initiatives which are expected to show results by the third or fourth quarter of 2020

While noting that Malaysia has demonstrated its resilience in managing various challenges in the past, he gave the assurance that the government will continue to ensure that the nation's financial and investment ecosystems are well prepared to face short- and medium-term eventualities in order to secure Malaysia's economic resilience and sustainability.
The OPR, which is now lowered to 1.75%, is now at a record low since the floor was set in 2004

On the bright side, lower opr => more people borrowing => more earnings in near future.
Also lower opr => possibly chance less loan defaults after moratorium?

OPR cut = all FD come to stock market

Posted by DeepValueInvestor > 2020-07-08 16:59 | Report Abuse

@CakapSohaiThings Maybe because people no longer want to save money in FD and start investing in blue chip stocks for dividend yields.

I personally really like bimb and takaful for long term investment. Cheers

Hopefully the Pumpkins in CIMBs Due D departments have all had their heads slapped or chopped off and we can now look forward to normal write-offs. If this is the case, then I think its time to buy. However if come Dividend time we are told sad and sorry stories and the dividend is badly cut then I'm afraid its time for the CIMB Board to take responsibility for the lack of Due D and cut their salaries and perks 99%! No more cakes with their coffee in the Boardroom! Let the cleaning staff take control they would do a better job I'm sure.

BNM cut OPR...this stock kena pancung....NO 3.20 but it's getting nearer to 4.20 instead.
Bomoh didn't use coconut, maybe.

Posted by CakapSohaiThings > 2020-07-08 22:41 | Report Abuse

@RedEagle Q2 is not true colors but temporary setback. But the stock market is forward looking, I am personally foward looking into post SEP30 and 2021. Also, lowering OPR artificially inflate markets' average PE anyway.

NPL is priced in.

Modification loss affects Public Bank, Hong Leong Bank, Maybank. Affin Bank and AMMB more than CIMB

@Big3, the daily trading participate u gave there was for 07 July. For 08 July foreign fund was the net buyer (bought 836 sold 606), I guess foreign fund likes bank stocks better than gloves too

Posted by CakapSohaiThings > 2020-07-09 11:35 | Report Abuse

@adriantam EASILY with buying interest slowly switching from gloves to banks.

It is still way below my sifu DeepValue's calculated intrinsic value of ~RM6. Anything below RM5.4 (10% safety margin from my sifu's RM6) I will keep on collecting with my monthly payroll for long term investment

@stkoay my sifu definitely did his research thoroughly. I saw his excel sheet comparing each bank stocks. Still dont know how he picks the stocks. But I am just following him to keep buying his picks when they are still under his calculated intrinsic value.

The modification gain arises from the disbursement of SME loans under the Special Relief Facility (SRF) scheme which, as a result of being 80% guaranteed by Credit Guarantee Corporation, contributes to lower funding cost to banks, thus resulting in a modification gain which could be offset against the Day 1 modification loss on hire-purchase loans.

Yes, disbursements from SRF will offset losses from HP thingy. See briefing from ambank when they released the quarter two weeks ago. It mentioned interest free funds being loaned to SMEs at 3.5%, resulting in HP losses being reduced from 400m to 80m

Interest rate already drop so much, means earnings will drop too, therefore stock price will drop too. Come invest in Semiconductor, it is the future, buy MPI, DUFU, Penta, Frontken for future. Invest some now when it is still cheap, price will continue to go up like Tesla, Facebook, Amazon, Square and etc... don't miss the train.
