LONDON (Reuters) - Oil steadied near $32 a barrel on Wednesday, supported by hopes that a meeting between OPEC members and allied producers on Thursday will trigger output cuts to shore up prices that have collapsed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Thursday's videoconference meeting between the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies including Russia is expected to be more successful than their gathering in March, which ended in a failure to extend supply cuts and a price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia.

"The coming extraordinary producing-countries meeting is the only hope on the horizon for the market," said Bjornar Tonhaugen of Rystad Energy.

"Nobody wants to go short ahead of what could be a 'positive surprise' by OPEC++."

Brent crude (LCOc1) was down 9 cents, or 0.3%, at $31.78 by 0837 GMT after falling 3.6% on Tuesday. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude (CLc1) rose 94 cents to $24.87.

Crude has collapsed in 2020 because of a slide in demand due to the coronavirus outbreak and excess supply. Brent dropped to $21.65, its lowest since 2002, on March 30.

While OPEC sources have said a deal to cut production is conditional on the participation of the United States, doubts remain as to whether Washington will contribute.

The U.S. Department of Energy said on Tuesday U.S. output was already declining, without government action.

U.S. crude production is expected to slump by 470,000 bpd and and demand is set to drop by about 1.3 million bpd in 2020, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Tuesday.

Before the OPEC and other producers' meeting, the latest round of U.S. oil inventory data will be in focus on Wednesday.

In a sign of excess supply, the American Petroleum Institute, an industry group, said U.S. crude inventories jumped by 11.9 million barrels. The government's supply report is due at 1430 GMT.

Hopefully raising to 7.99 or higher on last day before ex date...then may sell after ex date as dividends are likely be halted for the rest of the year (australia banks jus did that)
May buy below 6 again for possibilities of div yield more than 5%
Don’t forget that another couple of rate cut of 25 to 50 bps are coming in early May... think about it...
stay home stay safe fellow Msian

OPEC+ to Meet, With Cuts Expected
Oil ministers will be brushing up on their video conference skills tonight.

OPEC+ will hold its virtual meeting Thursday that many (bulls) are hoping will result in production cuts to stabilize the market.

WTI futures spiked 11% in late trading as Algeria revved up expectations, saying “massive” output cuts were on the cards, which could be around 10 million barrels per day.

That added to enthusiasm about Russia planning to offer cuts of 1.6 million barrels, Reuters reported, citing a Kremlin source.

U.S. participation could be the key to whether a deal goes through. But the world’s largest crude producer signaled it will contribute about 1.2 million bpd at most in cuts that would be market driven, not an official reduction.

“Right now is a good time to get back into markets and take advantage of the decline in equity markets to position for the rebound,” Ardagna added.

Her comments follow the advice of Goldman’s investment strategy group from mid-March, which advised clients to gradually add risk assets after the big pullbacks.

“When valuations are so low, when there’s been pretty sharp drawdowns in equity markets, on a 12- to 18-month horizon, the probability of getting a positive return is pretty high,” she said.

Take advantage of a rebound? I sold at 7.90 couple days ago. MARKET rally cannot sustain for long. Relief rally because of central Bank liquidity. World are in recession now. When latest US gdp out, market will start crashing. Mark my words.

MELBOURNE/SINGAPORE: Oil prices rose on Thursday on expectations the world's largest oil producers would agree to cut production at a meeting later in the day as the industry grapples with a coronavirus-driven collapse in global oil demand.

Brent crude futures rose 1.2%, or 41 cents, to $33.25 a barrel as of 0529 GMT. The contract rose to an intra-day high of $33.90, climbing for a second day.

CNN: US intelligence agencies started tracking coronavirus outbreak in China as early as November???????

Weird, Chinese gov only aware of the outbreak in late December, how can the US already tracking it in November? Somehow they have advance knowledge of the outbreak. This also make sense why CDC pull out from China months before the outbreak.

This actually turning more heads, and means what the chinese minister saying that the virus was brought in by U. S. military during a competition in wuhan during the same period is true.

China have no one to blame themselves, how can they be so stupid, U. S. clearly want you dead under trump, still you let US military into heart of China. Giving enemy the perfect opportunity to release a virus bomb, for maximum damage.

To china, you are lucky to survive this time, won't be so lucky next time. Don't let your guard down on United States. You are the closes competitor to dethrone them from global dominance after russia. United States will do whatever it takes to stop that.

Real unemployment in the United States has likely hit 14.7%, the highest level since 1940
Over a three week stretch, 16.8 million Americans have filed for unemployment.

Another 6.6 million Americans filed initial unemployment claims in the week ending April 4. That follows 3.3 million and 6.9 million in the two previous weeks, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Before this three-week stretch of 16.8 million of initial jobless claims, there were already 7.1 million unemployed Americans as of March 13, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. When the figures are combined, it would equal 23.9 million unemployed, or a real unemployment rate of 14.7%—which would be the highest level since the early years of World War II.

Good, good and good. Let Idiot's Maga America burn until the people themselves decide to change their idiot of a president in November. Does the Idiot know that his country is losing influence? Does he know that his country is the biggest debtor nation in the world? Does he know that others consider him a big liar and immoral? No, no, no. Idiot!

Economist said unemployment in US will hit 32%. That's a huge numbers and the numbers would kill the world economy. I hope Malaysian government will do more to help the lower incomes group to survive this hard times. Instead of supporting those entrepreneurs.

There also clueless senators in US.
A Republican member of the US Senate has submitted a bill to withdraw US forces from Saudi Arabia if it does not adhere to the plan to reduce oil production, in order to change the direction of the oil price decline that has harmed US energy companies.

Maybe, the PetroDollar is begining to see its end. But I bet the US would chicken out.
