chooken : thanks so much .

Posted by ShiningStars > 2015-11-23 21:22 | Report Abuse

I'm not sure if I could help u much.
DY is dividend yield which is an amount given by the company if they have good profits or part of their policy. Some companies which has low dividend doesn't mean they're not doing well, but might be using the money to grow.
ROE as u know is return on equity, so if their returns are higher means the company is better financially.
So, if both are high, it's quite a good stock.
But, it's not the end, do more research on annual reports etc.

Posted by prudentinvestor > 2015-11-23 22:51 | Report Abuse

The dividend yield of a listed company is the amount of dividend the company pays during a financial year divided by its share price. If Maybank pays RM560 of dividend for its financial year ending 31/12/2015 and its share price is RM 8, its dividend yield will be 7, meaning your investment gives you a return of 7%.

Thanks for the help guys ;) so ROE is mostly for shareholder reference.

China is going to buy all the Malaysian debts n thus will help improving our financials as a result of foreign pull out ; when our currency stabilises around RM4 to 1 USD compared with the present 429:1 ; it means that China will stand to gain the difference plus the debts derived interest. So , it will be a win -win situation. Banking stocks like may bank will be benefitted as well.

Friend contango, good banks stock doesn't come cheap. I am glad that you are investing in this counter like I do for dividends. I had been holding this Maybank shares for so many years and I just continue to collect my dividends and enjoy the yearly slight growth.

HI team , I got one question here, please help .
Last month I want to buy maybank share , then I key in best buy 8.40 and queue for a week, however on the whole day my price still under queue ,but very lucky for me because the next trading day maybank open price is 8.36. And the system (I am using maybank investment Apps ) automatically bought the share for me at 8.36 instead of 8.40.
Now If I want to sell some of my share at 8.60. Can I key in the selling price at 8.60 and put it under queue for two weeks ?
Because I worry if tomorrow maybank open price is 8.4 , then the system will automatically help me to sell it at 8.4.

Because last time the system did help buy at a lower price .

If the so called half past six claimed experts said banking sector is doomed , then it will be our chance to accumulate cheap ; since its PER is only half compared at its peak , we r real lucky coz we already got it cheap . Just wait until the Rm n economy recover , this banking stock will be the star of the future.

China is buying our country debts n surely Ringgit will stabilize ; banking sector will be greatly benefitted from the above gesture. When Ringgit n USD coming to 4 or lower . It will be great to see what the experts going to say....may be another bla...bla in the local media to spout all the nonsenses .
The cue is when the experts said buy , u must sell instead o avoid being trapped .

Don't worry, the managers will only approve loans to Calvin Tan, Amy Tan, Boniface Tan, and other good guys. No managers from any banks will approve loans to HARVARD57, the SUPER JOKER.

Therefore, NPL is not an issue to local banks.

Just remember: Don't lend money to harvard57 the superjoker who yells (BUY HIBISCS RM 2.2)

HI Maybank team:
I just found Maybank had DRP as below :
On behalf of the Board, Maybank IB wishes to announce that the issue price of the new Maybank Shares to be issued pursuant to the 11th DRP applicable to the Interim Cash Dividend has been fixed today (“Price-Fixing Date”) at RM7.50 per new Maybank Share. The issue price is based on the five (5)-day volume weighted average market price (“VWAMP”) of RM8.53 per Maybank Share up to and including 23 September 2015, being the last trading day prior to the Price-Fixing Date for the issue price of new Maybank Shares after adjusting for the following:

Can I know is it already expired ?when is the EX-date .
Is it One Mother share can get a discount price at 7.50 (ratio 1:1) ?.

I really confuse this DRP ?

Renember the usual Feb will be fat dividend for Maybank as well as share purchase via dividend at 7.50 to all eligible shareholders. Fat div usually is more than 50 c per share.

ivan, that's a lot of questions in one comment. Let me try my best to explain them. :)

EX-date of dividend is on 8-Oct. So, yes, it is expired.
The second question shows that you need some study on what is DRP.
In short, DRP or dividend reinvestment plan literally means, use issued dividend to buy new share.
Normally the new share will be at a discounted price (RM7.50) to attract investor to accept their DRP. In this way, issuer can keep the cash for their next plan. Investor can choose to accept their DRP or do nothing depending on the prospect of the issuer.
The last date for the DRF or dividend reinvestment form submission is on 29-Oct. So, it is expired too. If you did not fill in the form and send it, then by default, you should receive cash in full.

Hopefully my answer don't confuse you. There are many better than me sifu here.
