Maybank’s Indonesian arm sees 9M net profit surge 70%

By Tan Siew Mung / theedgemarkets.com | October 29, 2015 : 10:12 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): Malaysia's largest bank by assets, Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) ( Valuation: 2.25, Fundamental: 1.40), saw its Indonesian outfit PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk's net profit for the nine months ended Sept 30, 2015 (9MFY15) surge by 70.7% to Rp592 billion, from Rp347 billion in 9MFY14.

The strong performance was achieved on the back of improved net interest income (NII), better net interest margin (NIM), higher fee-based income, solid growth on liquidity — especially in current accounts, and outstanding achievement in syariah banking.

Its Indonesian arm, which was formerly known as PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII), said in a statement today that its NII increased 10.5% to Rp4.8 trillion in September as its NIM improved to 4.82% from 4.63%, due to the bank's discipline in loan pricing and active funding management.

The bank's fee-based income (other operating revenue) recorded an increase of 12.4% to Rp1.6 trillion, driven mainly by fees from advisory activities, insurance, and foreign exchange transactions.

Meanwhile, the bank saw a loan growth of 6.6% to Rp111.5 trillion, despite the more challenging business environment and weaker domestic economy, while business (up 12.2% to Rp43.6 trillion) and retail banking (up 12.3% to Rp44.7 trillion) remained its growth drivers.

Business banking made up 40% of the bank's total loans, while retail contributed 39% and the remainder 21% comes from global banking; global banking's loans declined 10.4% year-on-year to Rp23.2 trillion.

"I am also pleased to note that our syaria banking continued to show outstanding performance following the implementation of a syaria first strategy across the bank's line of business and branches since 2014.

"Syaria banking's net profit of Rp239 billion has contributed approximately 40% of the bank's net profit in September 2015," said Maybank Indonesia president director Taswin Zakaria.

Maybank Indonesia president commissioner Tan Sri Megat Zaharuddin Megat Mohd Nor, who is also Maybank Group's chairman, said the management remain cautiously optimistic as they continue to seek out opportunities for sustained growth, given the current operating environment.

"As part of the Maybank group, we have the advantage of harnessing group synergies across the region and tap on the potentials arising from economic activities in our region of focus, ie China and especially ASEAN, which we expect to remain robust in comparison to elsewhere in the world.

"Our recent brand realignment with Maybank Group will enable the bank to further leverage the group's differentiated strengths, which we hope will lead to commendable results and deliver better values to all our stakeholders," he said.

Maybank Indonesia is one of the largest banks in Indonesia today, with over 460 branches.

As at Sept 30, its total customer deposit stood at Rp110.6 trillion, with Rp153.9 trillion in assets, while non-performing loans stood at 4.34% (gross) and 2.79% (net).

Don't forget that Nov div is on the way , previous year @ 24c and the coming Feb 2016 shall be another fat div where last year @ 57c..... The last div just paid @24c inclusive share reinvestment policy attached. Maybank shall be the darling of EPF by seeing their trend of buying non-stop. Yearly div is at 6.9 % n considered the highest amongst banking stocks.

Got to guess which counter Value Cap would buy. I think Maybank is very close to its 52 weeks low (RM8.18) and it is under valued. So Value Cap will very likely to enter Maybank.

Maybank has announced that the new Maybank Shares arising from the 11th DRP (RM7.50) will be listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad on 12 November 2015.

Will this bring down the share price of Maybank on 12.11.2015 onward?

If yes, better wait till that day only buy. Value Cap will only come in early next month.

can anyone explain why c15 volume is higher than c17? c15 exercise price is RM8.80 and selling at around 13% premium. but c17 has lower exercise price at RM8.20 and the premium is much much cheaper, which is only at 6%. i am confused....

whoever bought c15 better watch out. it is ridiculously overpriced. better sell and buy cheaper premium warrant.

Ivan if you buying for long haul and not hear the short term noise you are all right brother. Based on historical track record and at current pricing, you are projected to have over 6.5% dividend and ROI close to 9%. I am picking more shares as it is averaging down.

Annquuengueen..a million dollar question! No one can predict the lowest. My view is anything below 8.30 is worth picking due too strong dividend and ROI as mentioned above.
