I'm not sure if u guys realized or not, but current Malaysia market is our local institution mopping out the excess equity sold by foreign institute. In order word, foreign investor are still selling and this brief upward might be just being local institute stabilizing the equity.. so nothing to be surprise or excited about.

There is literally no way for maybank to go up to 9.50 end of this month. If the expiry is end of the year then at least still have slim chance.Unless US & China markets everyday have upbeat news, else year end window dressing activity might also not be able to drag the price up so much as there will be lots of profits taking in the process

To answer your question why there is so much volume on 1st. September...you have to look at the bigger picture...Maybank is of the few counters held by foreign funds...when the ringgit weakened drastically foreign funds will have to cut their holdings to protect their initial positions in US$ when they first bought. When they sell this was followed by strong support by local institutions like Amanah Saham, EPF etc to stabilise the counter otherwise if it breaks below RM8.00 many retailers would have snapped it...but I think the lowest it went was RM8.20.
Now the banking sector is not an attractive sector to look into as loans growth is stagnant due to tight Bank Negara policies as we have one of the highest household debts in the region. For it to come back to RM9.00 with a small window due to the expiry of the call warrants it would be challenging. So hope it answers your query why there is so much volume...there are sharks also at high end stocks not just the penny stocks.Hope it helps.

buy n sell for may bank may incur 10c difference , so anything less than 10c will lose money....so this is not a contra counter unless up n down more than 10C or 1.5% increase. The present toppish market is the result of impending budget 2016.After the budget , the normal Oct blue will set in...just pray hard it won't come this year.

Today is the ex-date for Rm0.24 dividend.Usually the opening price on ex-date will be the price of previous day deduct dividend amount, which in this case is 8.71-0.24=8.47.To be entitled for dividend, one must hold Maybank shares at yesterday close

Hope the market is bullish after ringgit is strengthening but there r pros n cons on the upside too!
B4 Value Cap enters the market in Nov , I m afraid big corrections may follow first n not the upswing all along the way . This cannot b discounted too! In this way Value Cap can make more gain in the process. Previous intervention in 2003-2008 managed to make a gain around 15% as reported. This time may be more considering the depreciation of Ringgit taken as a measure.

Please stay away from structure warrant (SW), if you are NOT familiar with that. Generally market maker (issuer) tend to make more money than average investor. Two skills needed in trading SW - (i) timing and (Iii)selection. Fundamental always come after the two skills, as a back up plan. Do study the terms and condition correctly. Good luck!

Posted by leslieroycarter > 2015-10-09 10:36 | Report Abuse

may bank has to retreat first after the ex 24c div in order to climb higher .....coz 24c div is considered a lot here...

Posted by Darren Yeap > 2015-10-09 11:42 | Report Abuse

sorry taikos, i'm new here...
isit considered not worth to buy now cos i dun get any div ady?

Posted by leslieroycarter > 2015-10-09 14:46 | Report Abuse

Already ex div 24c but the price remains strong....n looking stronger still .
But take caution too coz Dows may retreat lower after a few days positive upswing and likewise in Bursa.
Ringgit also weaker a bit n the tendency for minor corrections cannot be ruled out totally.

when new shares enter into market from Maybank, this counter will face some selling pressure.

MIDF said 783M foreign money bought into Malaysia market last week, that probably explained some price recovery in blue chips last week. Maybank will usually be among the first to benefit from foreign funds buying.

A real or perceived indecisive Fed is doing no good to business & market at all.

Hope the RM will be strengthening in days to come ; given that the interest rate hike cloud temporarily disappeared due to China weak numbers and low inflation in US but the scenario of interest hike is only postponed to Dec n not totally out from the picture. Even Warren Buffet were in no uncertain term calling out that the financial situation is damn serious....?

weaker ringgit again....so the adjustment will come sooner than anticipated plus the over-hanged impending interest hike in US cannot be ruled out altogether. It was reported it may happen in Dec or early 2016....

Abd Wahid Omar is better suited as Maybank CEO than a politician or ValueCap head. His call to buy Maybank is to protect his self interest rather than Malaysian betterment.
