Analyst briefing, the results would have been even much better if not because of the $7.9 mils forex losses incurred from USD loan. Anyway still an excellent results.

Weaker ringgit helps push Unisem's 3Q net profit up 48%

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 29): Semiconductor manufacturer Unisem (M) Bhd ( Valuation: 1.20, Fundamental: 1.80) saw a 48% jump in its net profit to RM40.2 million or 5.5 sen per share for its third quarter ended Sept 30, 2015 (3QFY15), from RM27.12 million or 4.02 sen per share a year earlier.

Revenue for the quarter climbed 21% to RM329.61 million from RM273.27 million in 3QFY14.

For the nine-month period (9MFY15), net profit doubled to RM95.12 million from RM47.23 million in 9MFY14, while revenue rose 21% to RM908.46 million from RM752.9 million.

"The increase in revenue for the current quarter and financial year-to-date was mainly attributable to consistent demand for the products and services of the group and an appreciation in the US dollar against the ringgit and yuan exchange rates, as compared with the rates that prevailed in the corresponding quarter/period a year ago," said Unisem in a Bursa Malaysia filing today.

The group said its Asian segment saw a 35% increase in revenue for 9MFY15, while its US and Europe segments saw improvement of 12.9% and 10.1% respectively.

Besides the favourable foreign exchange rates, Unisem said its performance was supported by better contribution from its wafer bumping and advanced package operations, coupled with lower interest expense.

Going forward, the group expects its performance to remain satisfactory for the remainder of its current financial year.

Unisem shares rose three sen or 1.32% to close at RM2.30 today, giving it a market capitalisation of RM1.67 billion.

The research house said Unisem’s 9M15’s core net profit grew by 159% on-year to RM97.5mil (versus RM37.6mil in 9M14) due to the strengthening US$ against RM, and the increase in sales volumes of higher-margin packages such as leadless, wafer-level chip scale package (WLCSP) and test services.

“We raise our FY15-17 EPS by 1%-24% following the better-than-expected earnings performance. Maintain Add on the stock, with a higher RM3 target price, based on a lower 14 times CY17 P/E, similar to its historical mean (versus 17 times previous, one standard deviation above mean), due to the lacklustre industry demand outlook.

This counter share price might be up gradually over the good Q3 financial result and dividend declared if higher final dividend like 4 to 5 cents is expected to be declared and in future; you just visualise G tronics share price has been up steadily over the past 2 years mainly due to its dividend declared from its large portion of its profit and good financial results. The Unisem's performance will likely be sub stainable in coming quarters:).

Rise in exports in October from a year ago for electrical and electronics (E&E) products increased 22.7% or RM4.9bil to RM26.2bil.Timber and timber-based products, which accounted for 2.8% of total exports, expanded RM468.3mil or 28.5% to RM2.1bil.No wonder today all the exports oriented counters are surging high! Coupled with yesterday Avago 9.51% surge after better than expected earnings,E&E sector still remains strong.
