KUALA LUMPUR: Cheetah Holdings Bhd has made its first strides into the upscale clothing market with the launch of Cheetah Exclusive, its first exclusive collection for mens and ladies by renowned designer Datuk Jovian Mandagie.
The company, which is known primarily for its flagship Cheetah brand across Malaysia, enters the upscale clothing industry bolstered by its confidence that the Malaysian fashion retail market will continue to grow in 2023 and beyond.
Chief executive officer Victor Lim Leong Poh said Cheetah was bullish on the growth of the local fashion retail market.
"We have decided to accelerate our entry into the upscale market by partnering with someone who knows exclusive clothing best – Dato' Jovian Mandagie," said Lim.
The new collection incorporates the classic denim with the timeless paisley print.
The iconic pattern is characterised by curved teardrop shapes known as boteh, the Persian word for flower.
Executive director Roy Ho Yew Kee said the company had ventured into exclusive clothing collections to try to offset general increase in raw materials.
Ho said this would be done by having more higher margin items to cater for the urban market.
"E-commerce and concept stores will be the channel for the exclusive lines with the company targeting to open another two more outlets in strategic locations within the financial year," he said.
During the launch of its Cheetah Exclusive collection at its newly redesigned Cheetah Flagship Store in 1Utama Shopping Centre, Cheetah also hosted a first-of-its-kind 3D immersive art experience which will be open to the public for free on the Oct 7-16 this year.

Mr Victor Lim Leong Poh (“Mr Victor”) joined as Chief Operating Officer on 1 May 2021 and subsequently promoted as Chief Executive Officer on 1 July 2021. KUALA LUMPUR: Cheetah Holdings Bhd unveiled its latest tennis-inspired Summer/Spring 2022 collection recently, featuring adopted styles from the nineties and being Datuk Jovian Mandagie's first fashion show with Cheetah as its creative director.
The collection also marks a new beginning in the brand's design direction in efforts to refresh Cheetah's current line of clothing to suit the trending fast fashion market.
This marked Cheetah's first ever fashion show since 1989 and is set to be one of the biggest fashion shows in Malaysia.
With 70 models on the runway, the collection featured looks inspired by the style and ambience from the Wimbledon Championships.
Specially curated by Jovian himself, the collection represented Cheetah's further interest in setting its sights on the urban market and to continuously appeal to its current and potential market segment while strengthening its local and global footing in the fashion arena.
At the event, Jovian reminisced his best childhood memories wearing Cheetah attire for school activities, which led to his inspiration for this collection.
"My first collection for Cheetah is very sentimental, it goes way back to 28 years ago, when my mother bought me my first Cheetah outfit for Physical Education (PE) classes.
"It felt really good to be wearing branded clothes for the first time and I remember feeling so proud wearing Cheetah at that very moment," he said.
"To be given the opportunity to design this whole collection with Cheetah is such a great honour for me. We worked immensely hard for this collection to ensure that it is up to perfection, especially for the millennial group," he added.
The nineties fashion saw the emergence from a glamazon era punctuated by low maintenance and affordable clothing brands taking centre stage.
"Consumers were influenced by a combination of sportswear and streetwear outfits which has morphed into today's athleisure. With the firm belief that this approach is evergreen and always relevant to the current living style, Cheetah blended in the idea and translated it into this collection," it said.
"The collection is a combination of sports and lifestyle that blends both fashion and comfort to create a complete line for men, women and children," Cheetah added.
Cheetah said in the coming months, the company and Jovian would draw inspiration to provide new collections, as well as to upscale the brand's staples to be more relevant and more in tune with the needs of the young consumers, which represents the key target market.

Cheetah juga menganjurkan Peraduan Bola Sepak Cheetah, yang meramalkan Juara Dunia untuk meraih hadiah wang tunai, dari sekarang sehingga 19 Disember 2022.
Peserta dikehendaki membuat pembelian di kedai-kedai, kaunter atau laman web Cheetah.
