Takaso Resources Bhd may indirectly win a military vehicles supply job contract worth around RM120 million.

Its partner, Pesaka Astana (M) Sdn Bhd, secured a contract yesterday from the Ministry of Defence to supply 300 vehicles, an industry source told Bernama.

"Each vehicle will cost RM400,000. Pesaka will undertake the job with Takaso Resources," the source said on condition of anonymity.

In a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Jan 4, Takaso Resources said it had entered into a Memorandum of Collaboration with Pesaka Astana "to negotiate further on project collaboration with Pesaka Astana."

In furnishing the exchange with further details on Jan 7, Takaso Resources said there were three initial Letters of Award (LOA) from Mindef that the company and Pesaka Astana "wish to start their collaboration."

The first LOA was an offer for a special firefighting vehicles procurement contract for supporting Sukhoi jet operations at the Gong Kedak Airbase for the Royal Malaysian Air Force.

The second LOA was an offer for a supply and delivery of spare parts for AMDAC vehicles' for the Army Infantry via direct negotiation.

The third was an offer for a procurement contract to supply and deliver fire fighting vehicles for Complex SOC 3, Kota Samarahan and Complex Radar for the Royal Malaysian Air Force in Gunung Ngili, Simunjan, Sarawak.

The statement to Bursa said as the MOC was just a preliminary document to allow the parties to commence discussions and negotiations, the exact scope and role of the parties have yet to be finalised.

It also said that Pesaka Astana's vehicles were those that carry the branding AMDAC and also ADIwira where the company is in partnership with the Malaysian Army and includes (but are not limited) to interchangeable tactical vehicles and fire fighting vehicles.

Meanwhile, the sources said Pesaka Astana has been a contractor for Mindef for the last 20 years.

Pesaka Astana is involved, among others, in the business of manufacturing, assembling, as well as, customising vehicles of various specifications including to customise and to supply vehicles required by its customers including the government. -- Bernama
