PLUS : Are You Paying More
Earlier Thursday, the Cabinet announced its decision not to sell PLUS and extend the concession period by another 20 years until 2058. This change the concession peiod from 18 years to 38 yeras. Are commuters paying more?

Option 1 :
Assume u pay 100 per month toll fee
Payment Period - 18 years (Assume no tool hike in future)
Interest Rate - 3%
PV = $16,674.36
Option 2
Assume u pay 82 per month toll fee (After 18% reduction)
Payment Period - 38 years (Flat Rate Till End Concession Period)
Interest Rate - 3%
PV =$22,295.00
Comparison : U are paying 5620.64 more or 33.71%. However, if we include extra charges for future tool hike under Option 1 and cost of maintainence needed for another 20 years extension, the diffenrence likely to be not very significant. Question here, as a communter, are you willing to pay a little bit more for a good expressway or ride on a lousy road like most of the federal road?

If you consider EPF dividend where most of the investment money is coming from PLUS. Then it should be lower. Consider toll as forced saving....if gov sell PLUS then there will be no dividend for you or lower dividend...

Toll is easy money. An income derived from people's blood. Pirates love blood money. They don't have to crack their head to think of generating money. This is like a village gangster extorting money from whoever passes by. The only capital is a plank of resistance and some thugs.

I think no free lunch in life loh....!!
Yes u can abolished tolls, then what happen, as u need to fund maintenance highway leh ??
Do u want govt take more monies from your income tax and sales tax to fund the highway maintenance leh ??
Thus extending the concession and lowering plus toll rate by 18% and promise to never increase toll rate for the next 38 yrs is the right approach mah....!!
In addition the usual users of Plus highway must pay in order to be fair, u cannot ask sabahan or sarawakian to maintain plus highway bcos they never use mah...!!
So maintain the highway plus toll is a right approach loh...!!
