The government is considering introducing a mandatory monthly deduction for repaying PTPTN study loans through an automatic deduction facilitated by IRB. This is as the government agency is saddled with a total debt of RM66.9bn, with no easy solutions to reduce it. Dr Geoffrey Williams, Economist and Professor at Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) suggests some radical solution for this conundrum and why free education is part of that plan.

Borrowers wanted waivers from government. Gov must be firmed lah. Or else people also can play the waiting game with the government.

No use free edu. Why? Because students don’t appreciate free education. They scored low marks in Spm and Stpm because they didn’t appreciate free education. Compared to private education which charged expensively, the students result were excellent because they needed excellent results to get better pay when applying for jobs…
Free things… people will not appreciate. When you charge money for things, people will use it with care.

Like Spore, government charges expensively for water, people there use water with care. If Spore government gives free water, people there will not use water with utmost care.

Free education at university level?
Is the quality of that education worth that much loan?
Is this country on par with developed nation?
Bragging about having best infrastructure but services are worse than known third world nations.
For half century still claiming majority need assistance.
Isn't it shameful that MAJORITY intravenous drip to continue.
Einstein says it is insanity to repeat same policy over and over and expecting different result!
Well, Einstein is a kafir, need not listen to him, right?
It like pouring water over yam leaves (daun keladi).

right now ptptn-sspn is a ponzi scheme. sspn collect money to feed ptptn cos ptptn borrowers many dont pay back
once rm8000 sspn tax deduction stop, the ptptn ponzi will collapse!

From young, these borrowers have already been trained as bad paymasters. Taking loan with low interest rate of 1% only, and have no intention of paying back. What will happen to our financial system later on..?

The correct approach is let PTPTN be the credit arm of either EPF or LHDN loh!
Let them to collect thru epf or income tax loh!
I m sure under this 2 either vehicle these agencies can do a good job of collection loh!
Future PTPTN should be disburse thru the banks.....with govt channeling the cheap funding to the bank.....where bank on lend to the students loh!
The banks are responsible collecting these loans....for at least 10 years....after 10 year unable to collect the banks have recource to govt for reimbursing the loans loh!
