After I saw Press Metal announcement of its latest quarter result, I am encouraged to predict my target price for Hiap Teck.
Press Metal share price is Rm 5.10.
The company just announced its EPS 3.16 sen for its quarter ending June and its previous quarter EPS 2.55 sen.
Hiap Teck share price is 53.5 sen.
Its EPS 4.79 sen for quarter ending April and its previous quarter EPS 2.21 sen.
By comparison Hiap Teck share price should be much higher that Press Metal.
Why Steel price shot up more than 300%?
China has been the biggest steel producer and exporter in the world. Since China wants to improve its air quality and environment, it has stopped exporting steel. It only produces enough of steel for its own use. As a result, the price of steel has shot up more than 300% in the last 1 year as shown on the chart below.
China has stopped buying iron ore from Australia. As a result, the iron ore price has plunged sharply as shown on the iron ore price chart below.
As I stated above, Hiap Teck EPS 4.79 sen for quarter ending April and its previous quarter EPS 2.21 sen. Hiap Teck’s profit increase is 4.79 sen divided by 2.21 sen = 216%. Based on the rapid steel price increase, Hiap Teck EPS for the next quarter should be much higher than 4.79 sen.
Assuming its EPS remained the same as 4.79 sen for the next 3 quarters, its annual EPS will be 4.79 X 4 = 19.2 sen.
If Press Metal with less EPS than Hiap Teck can sell at Rm 5.10, Hiap Teck should sell at least Rm 1.00.
My target price for Hiap Teck is Rm 1.00.
