SUCH is the aspiration of NGO Demi Negara which is in the midst of organising the “Demo Rakyat Lawan Anwar (Round One)” which is slated to be held on June 29 (Saturday) from 4.30pm-7pm in front of the Prime Minister’s (PM) residence at Kompleks Seri Perdana in Putrajaya.

A poster of the event which is being circulated via WhatsApp advised participants to turn up in black while supporters from afar are also urged to don black clothing on that particular day as a mark of solidarity with the protesters.

“The people have to wake up to oppose Anwar (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) as he has gone overboard in oppressing them time and again … he is least concerned of your welfare,” berated social media influencer YB Viral who helms the Demi Negara movement.

“This initiative is solely undertaken by Demi Negara and doesn’t involve any political party. We’ve facilitated the first stage which is to set up the platform while the second stage is for us to whole-heartedly oppose Anwar to the core.”

Added YB Viral: “To do so, kindly sponsor me so I can fulfil my responsibility to stop Anwar from extending the lifting of diesel subsidy to RON95 and various other so-called cost-cutting measures that will make life even more unbearable to the people.”

A collaboration among social media influencers, political/social and NGOs, Demi Negara claims that its primary objective is to ensure the country is on the right track.

Meanwhile, socio-politic activist and observer Siti Zulaikha Olivia (SZO) who is also part of the ‘Demo Rakyat Lawan Anwar (Round One)” set-up chided Anwar for pretending that he understood the hardship faced by the people in terms of spiralling cost of living.

“He once championed the notion that subsidy is the people’s right but now as if the tongue is boneless, he is now making the people look stupid by robbing them of the diesel subsidy, thus putting many small traders, hawkers and even 4WD-dependent Lalamove delivery partners in financial hardship,” exposed SZO.

“Imagine he (Anwar) even gave false economic lecture to students that subsidy is tantamount to alms when it (subsidy) should be part of the government’s responsibility to look after the interest and welfare of the people.”

Popular 1980s artist and celebrity Dayangku Intan or her real name Tengku Intan Tengku Abdul Hamid who also spoke on the “Demo Rakyat Lawan Anwar (Round One)” event reminded the people that the government of the day belongs to them.

“We have to stop supporting leaders who lie to the people as doing so is sinful,” asserted the PAS member. “Please pray for us for we know what is awaiting us once we take to the streets … I was once with Anwar but am now opposing him for he has strayed from the original struggle.” - June 19, 2024
