Ahmad Fayhsal: PMX’s targeted subsidy isn’t a political will; only blindly imitating IMF’s bullying tactic

BERSATU Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has taken a jab at the Madani government’s targeted fuel subsidy scheme which Pakatan Harapan (PH) backers have applauded as a political will that none of Prime Minister (PM) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s predecessors dared to embark upon.

According to the Machang MP, many PH social media influencers are now fondly accepting the counter-populist measure to the extent that they are disseminating it wide and far after being influenced by the narrative started by Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.

“The underlying tone of political is courage. But the Madani government ‘s targeted subsidy version is one of cowardice,” lamented Ahmad Fayhsal in a Facebook post. “Sabah and Sarawak are able to buy oil at low price while people in Peninsular Malaysia have to bear a high price.

“Everyone knows that the PM doesn’t dare to disturb Sabah and Sarawak because both states can withdraw support (from the unity government) at any time. People everywhere have already been condemning this cowardly but cruel policy. How can people in the Borneo states be allowed to buy diesel at low prices while those in the peninsula have to pay higher prices?”

Delving further, Ahmad Fayhsal claimed that the government has no intention whatsoever to ease the burden of the poor as often hyped.

“The government is clueless of what it’s doing. This is so much so that the reason given why only Sabah and Sarawak continue to enjoy low diesel prices is that there are more diesel users there compared to the peninsula. Indeed, reasoning that doesn’t make sense!” lambasted the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Youth deputy chief.

“Obviously the government hasn’t given deep thought on the matter. This is as if the government wants to tighten the belt ala the recommendation of IMF (International Monetary Fund) yet at the same time has no political will to withdraw subsidies in certain states and sectors.”

Added Ahmad Fayhsal: “The Subsidised Diesel Control Scheme Application (SKDS) only targets low prices for certain vehicles as if only certain industries should be protected. Others either get RM200 a month (the BUDI Individu cash assistance) or nothing at all.

“In short, the Madani’s government blindly follows the IMF but at the same becomes a coward towards some parties while continuing to bully most of the people who are known to be unable to do anything against the government!” - June 20, 2024
