NIBONG TEBAL: Better infrastructure, free tuition classes, ending poverty, and fair treatment to all are among the highlights of Dr Joohari Ariffin’s manifesto for the Sungai Bakap by-election.

The Pakatan Harapan candidate’s four-point manifesto “PerPADUan” outlines his plans for the constituency.

The first, “Prasarana dan Progresif” (infrastructure and progress), aims to ensure public facilities meet community needs and are well maintained.

“I promise to ensure that water and traffic infrastructure projects such as the Sungai Kerian Project, the Perak-Penang Water Project and the road connection construction in Bandar Tasek Mutiara will be carried out.

“Under the A, which stands for ‘Akhlak, Akademik dan Anak Muda’ (morals, academic and youth), I am committed to enhancing the moral and academic excellence of young people, including through free tuition classes for SPM students,” he said when announcing his manifesto at Taman Tasek Indah here on Saturday.

Joohari said the D in Padu stands for “Damai” (peace), prioritising community wellbeing by fostering a harmonious environment and strengthening family institutions through various inclusive programmes.

“This includes eradicating hardcore poverty, resolving citizenship issues for the elderly and local children, and promoting the development and preservation of mosques, surau, and places of worship.

“Under the U which is ‘Untuk Semua’ (for all), I aim to provide fair treatment for all segments of society, with a focus on youth, women, children and seniors, and the development of education, culture and others,” he added. When asked by the press about the upcoming crucial week of campaigning, Joohari said he would be spending the time sharing his manifesto with the people.

“I will work hard to ensure it becomes a reality,” he said.

The by-election on July 6 will see Joohari in a straight fight against Perikatan Nasional’s Abidin Ismail.

The by-election was called following the death of PAS assemblyman Nor Zamri Latiff on May 24 due to a stomach inflammation.
