KOTA KINABALU: The 5th Borneo Rhythms of Rimba (ROR) Festival, happening Sept 21 and 22 in Sandakan district, will feature a water-top bamboo pavilion and a 3km costume run in the forest.

The two-day event, organised by the non-governmental organisation Future Alam Borneo (FAB), will be held at Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC), Sepilok.

The organiser said in a statement that the custom-designed pavilion would be built on top of the RDC lake and done in collaboration with UCSI University's School of Architecture and Built Environment.

“The pavilion took inspiration from water village homes, which are iconic of coastal Sabah

“Borneo ROR Fest will also include our first ‘Force of Nature’ costume run on the second day,” said FAB.

Borneo ROR Festival is organised in collaboration with the United States Embassy of Kuala Lumpur, Sandakan Municipal Council, Sabah Forestry Department, and the state Tourism, Culture, and Environment Ministry. Core partners include Yayasan Hasanah and the High Commission of Canada.

FAB added that the event would also feature local and international conservationists, experts, scientists, and artists.

“Many other international guests will also join us over video links,” it said

Guests include ocean advocate Kimi Werner of Hawaii, artist Ernest Zacharevic, Sandakan’s own Kenji Chai and Sabahan community craft champion Yee I-Lann.

“Outdoor activities prepared include tree climbing, abseiling from canopy towers, obstacles courses, bamboo rafting, and much more.

“Meanwhile, the evenings' musical showcase will feature Bil Musa, Tuni Sundatang, Lost Spaces, among others,” said FAB.
