KLUANG: Malay voters should use the Mahkota by-election to allow Umno to get “medical treatment”, says its former secretary general Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

The PAS deputy election chief said that this is a reason why voters in the constituency should vote for Perikatan Nasional on polling day this Saturday (Sept 28).

Annuar - the former Ketereh MP - said that current Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has gone against the party's policies by working with DAP after the last general election.

“Things were bad for Umno during Datuk Seri Najib Razak's time as president but it is getting much worse under Ahmad Zahid. Barisan Nasional, in particular Umno, needs to get medical treatment. Voters should wake them up, they are going in the wrong direction,” he added.

Annuar said this at a Perikatan ceramah held at Kampung Tengah here on Tuesday (Sept 24) night, adding that the coalition would open its doors to Umno once it has "woken up".

The Mahkota by-election is a straight contest between Barisan’s candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan’s candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

The Mahkota state seat fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.

The Mahkota state constituency, located within the Kluang parliamentary constituency, has a total of 66,318 voters, with 20 polling centres set to open this Saturday (Sept 28).
