SHAH ALAM (Nov 21): The minimum wage in Selangor will be standardised at RM1,700 next year, aligning with implementation at the federal level, said State Human Resources and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman V Papparaidu.

He said this will be enforced through various approaches, in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Labour Department, statutory bodies, and the private sector in the state.

For this purpose, the state government will provide support in the form of assistance to micro, small, and medium enterprises to encourage the provision of fair and reasonable wages, taking into account the current economic conditions and inflation rates.

“Companies awarded state government contracts will also be required to comply with this policy. The implementation of the RM1,700 minimum wage requires continuous monitoring and awareness from all parties.

“As a developed state with robust economic growth, the state government will ensure the adaptation to these changes without disrupting operations, while employees will be given training and education on their rights,” he said during the state assembly sitting here on Thursday.

He was responding to a question from Jefri Mejan (PN-Ijok), who inquired about the state government's approach to ensuring the RM1,700 minimum wage is implemented in Selangor.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during the presentation of the Madani Budget 2025 last month, announced an increase in the minimum wage from RM1,500 to RM1,700 per month, effective Feb 1 next year.
