85% load factor does not mean can make money, MAS is not running low cost model. Anyway Singapore airline latest load factor is only 82%. Is all about cost management...

There is no more Lotus Malaysia team. Changed already to Caterham F1. F1 is a money burning sports. AA could never make money in F1 or even breakeven, the purpose is mainly to create brand awareness as F1 is the sports most people watch around the world. Tony owns F1 team, football club QPR all these are not mean to make money as first priority.

Indonesian plane crashes into cow and skids off runway
7 August 2013 Last updated at 15:20 GMT
An Indonesian passenger plane has skidded off a runway into a field after crashing into a cow.
The Lion Air plane, with at least 110 passengers on board, hit the cow as it came into land at Jalaluddin airport on the island of Sulawesi.
No-one has been reported injured, but the cow was crushed to death under a plane wheel.
The pilot, Iwan Permadi, told the national news agency Antara that he could smell "burning meat".
He said he initially thought there were dogs in front of the plane, "but it turned out there were three cows wandering in the middle of the runway".
Transport ministry spokesman Bambang Ervan told AFP news agency that all the passengers had safely disembarked.
The airport was closed after the incident, affecting people's travel plans for the Eid holiday. It has now reopened.
Indonesia relies heavily on air travel to connect its more than 17,000 islands, but the country has one of Asia's worst air safety records.
Lion Air is one of Indonesia's biggest private carriers, and has been expanding rapidly in recent years.
In April this year, at least 22 people needed hospital treatment when a Lion Air plane on a domestic flight missed the runway at Bali's Denpasar airport and came down in the sea.

The pilot shall run eye test again...a dog and a cow is a lot different in size.... LOL

We should think that MediaC is not just selling newspaper. They are in media business and the format can be traditional newsprint or, digital, put it this way. As long as the media business is growing, asia country is reading chinese news, this business still in good demand.

Giving free paper in universities and colleges is pretty normal. Just part of social responsibilities they are fulfilling. We don't expect a company who just know to make profit but not knowing giving back to society, don't we?
The circulation numbers will check later. But if reduce a bit in paper circulation but growing in web user still good.
2013-08-02 14:32 | Report Abuse
Besides, no one will do losing business. If really The Star is giving out free one day, i am sure the earning from Advert cover that cost. Just like The Sun paper.
2013-08-02 14:30 | Report Abuse
I not heard of paper circulation is reducing, not aware The Star is now free either.
Do you hv any facts?
2013-08-02 14:20 | Report Abuse
Common sense shall not charge reader, will earn much more from the advertisement as long as the paper has big readership and can reach all levels in society.
A good example is the soaring earning of FB. FB is free to join but they earn big in mobile advert.
Same thing will happen.
Strong readership is a goose lay golden egg. :)

I think most of their papers already has website in digital format. They already in IT just did not enforce payment. After all this depends on popularity of digital devices like pad that among readers.
For instance Singapore zaobao was in free in website for many years until recently they start charging fees

media advert is another big market. Pls check what is the annual spending on this segment? Besides, newspaper still play an important role and cannot be replaced by digital. Warren Buffett knew this.
Warren Buffett's newspaper company BH Media said Thursday it plans to acquire the Press of Atlantic City, N.J.

If you read the news from Kenanga:
...MRCB management is of the view that legally, NGSB honoured its agreement by exercising the “Dragalong notice” on 23rd April 2013 whereby PKNS is aware about the exercise when MRCB proposed to takeover the NGSB in 8 February 2013. The drag-along notice had already been agreed by both parties (NGSB and PKNS) when they entered into an agreement in 2010 to develop the land....
...it is now matter of PKNS can really buys backs the NGSB’s 70%-stake in PJ Sentral. MRCB would precede other land deals (i.e. Gapurna Land and Gapurna Builders) with NGSB and defer the PJ Sentral Development until they reach the workable solution with PKNS....
...Even without PJ Sentral, our RNAV will only be reduced to RM1.88 from RM2.08, which is still an OP call at this juncture....

Pity those travelers....last minute flight cancellation sure impact to hotel booking, logistic arrangement, vacation plan...etc
i wonder will the money refunded (assuming is not taking MONTHS to process the refund) able to cover the cost of last minute purchase of another airline ticket? further is long haul flight...
how would a consumer think about a low cost long haul airline? Or will they think is worth to buy a little expensive but 'maybe' more reliable, yet Full Service carrier to fly long distance? Choice is yours.

Fed maintains bond-buying program
The US Federal Reserve left unchanged near-zero interest rates and its massive bond-buying program on Wednesday, citing modest growth in the world's largest economy.
Wrapping up a two-day policy meeting, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) said it would continue to buy $85 billion in bonds per month to help tamp down longer term interest rates that have been supporting the economy, and especially the housing market recovery.

Well hobson64, i knew lot of ppl feeling stress right now, there is no point for me to add salt to the wound.
Whatever roadshow or invitation, end of the day we are the one to make the decision.
Market weakness is always exist and we shall not panic over stocks that with strong fundamentals, proven sustainable profitibility and strong management team. However i dont see the first two in AAX. There is still a wayout for those trapped...you know what it is.

Pls dont blame the bank. Bank did not force you to buy.
When Oldtown first listed in Bursa, the company paid $3.5 mil as Payment for share issue expenses. Where did this money goes to? To the bank or who? Pls think. Nothing is free for the shake of 'helping'.
