The proposed merger of CIMB Group, RHB Capital, and MBSB is off and an announcement is expected before end of the week, sources said. "The respective boards are expected to meet on Wednesday, when it will be formally expressed that the deal is off." a source said. It was reported that key contributory factors include tougher economic landscape and RHBCap seeking a revision to the terms after a substantial fall in CIMB's share price. (Financial Daily)

Some fund managers said news that the deal is off would be positive for CIMB and RHB Capital. This is because their share prices have underperformed due to uncertainties and concerns arising from the protracted negotiations.

Why the price of RHBCAP shot up to a high of 7.93 but closed gap down at only 7.80. So fast profit taking already? Any more room to rebound further? I have just bought at 7.86. Quite worrying.

Without the merger, we estimate that RHB Cap’s fair value on a standalone basis to be at RM8.40/share. This is based on an ROE of 10.7% for FY15F, leading to a fair P/BV of 1.1x based on a book value of RM7.75/share for FY15F.

Cimb replied to bursa denying merger is off. Tomorrow CIMB/RHB/MBSB will discuss on the proposed merger. Apparently syndicate has release false news to the edge daily, reuters and Bloomberg to confuse investors. Please go to bursa Malaysia on the official announcement.

Dear "Rich", as long as there is some upside and not downside, it is good enough already. CIMB up to fast today until I am not able to chase it while RHBCAP was trading between 7.86 and 7.88 for most of the day but last minute it gaps down to close at 7.80. Hopefully RHBCAP will still rise tomorrow and hit my target price of 8.40 by the end of this month.
